I picked up an empty water damaged shell of a q*bert machine from craigslist a few months ago. It had no wiring, no marquee light, no control pannel, NOTHING! I decided to try and build a 60-1 using the shell and lots of help from Modessitt. I cut the control pannel, installed all the wiring, custon made the monitor frame, used a universal chassis on a 19"t.v etc, etc. I finally got it to work, and the cabinet was complete. I slid it back against the wall and fired it up. The monitor would not power up and now it plays blind. The chassis is on it's way back. Biggest letdown ever.......
Has this ever happend to you?

Yep, we've all been there. Sometimes building or restoring a cabinet is like making a card castle.. you're almost finished, you put the last card on top, and the whole thing falls into a pile.

Won't people get frustrated looking for Q-bert on the 60-in-1? :)

I think you should put the multi-Gottlieb board in that thing when they come out.

I would convert it in a Mad planets.. wait, I like Qbert too..

I'd put it back into a qbert personally because it's not on the 60 : 1 and on to your question now.

Having a blind monitor is well, rather typical... Thats how I get most of my deals on games.:001_scool: It's good to learn how to fix those thing fast...

The monitor died on my Speed buggy/Buggy Boy once. There wasn't any power going to it. Traced it to the power supply. Replaced some caps then it worked beautifully again... then the same caps blew.. so I just replaced the power supply all together with a new one.. still going to try finding what was wrong with the old one..

I agree with you guys about the cabinet being a q*bert and the 60-1 not having q*bert. Since this cabinet had nothing I made the decision to just keep the q*bert side art, the art under the control pannel and use the multi cpo and marquee. From what I have seen restoring a q*bert machine is very expensive and parts are hard to come by. It is a bastard machine for sure but I did not want to ruin the original art on this machine to convert it to a multicade. If people want to play q*bert I guess they will have to fire up the atari 2600! I just hope when I get the chassis back the monitor works longer than five minutes!

Keep in mind that Qbert has the joystick oriented 45 degrees from every other joysick game. I don't think you'll have a lot of luck playing other games with Qbert...unless someone has hacked the software for a regular stick. That just wouldn't be right though.

Just wait till JROK comes out with his multi-Mylstar board, then put the original stick, bezel, and CP back on and you will be good to go.

Congrats on making a game. I am sure you will get the monitor all squared away.

I sent my chassis back to Vic at 8liners. He said he would repair it if it was broken. I requested a new one if possible. All I can do now is stare at a blank screen and listen to some sounds of games I should be playing! So close......
