I scored a really nice Asteroids Cocktail cabinet on the way home from work before my Christmas vacation. It is in great shape, other than the art peeling under the glass. Going to either touch up the border and put stickers under the glass, or get an Arcadeshop underlay for it. The board plays blind. The 5V fuse on the monitor keeps blowing, so I am going to recap and replace the transistors from Bob's kit. Also going to rebuild the AR board and recap the PCB. The game was really clean!

The cool part was I could fit the game in the back of my RAV4 without dropping the seats down. Very nice. It's also light enough I lifted it out myself.

Really clean inside except for a little dust.

The control panels have NO wear. New buttons will make them look fantastic

I saw that one...was thinking of grabbing it myself, but don't really have room. It didn't look too bad from the CL pics and was a great price :)

Yeah, I like when the price is decent and I don't have to haggle. I may not have pulled the trigger if it wasn't as nice as it is though. It wasn't free and I've seen some trashed cocktails.

use the springs from the old buttons in the new ones, also if you can try to use the old pressy things from the original buttons,i know it sounds weird but the new buttons dont feel nearly as good as the original old ones, the springs are pretty naff and they are more weird to touch on the new ones, the old ones will have wear so feel nicer.

in fact save them and clean them up and put them back.

funny i was doing some work on my mc cocktail and i just love the atari cabs,i am in uk and the taito crap and generic rip off ones are realy s**t looking.midway and atari cabs look lovely.

does the door fit as i have had 3 cocktails so far and none had a proper fitting door.i got 2 workers from 3 nonworkers,1 cocktail was proper wreck and i wanged it,i sold one and kept the other.

That really comes down to preference. First thing I did to my cabinets when I got them was replace the buttons and joystiqs with new ones. Love the feel of the new buttons personally. That classic click. Also like how with new buttons they all feel pretty much the same. Hell my neo geo cabinet had like 3 different vendors buttons on it from where ones were replaced over the years.

Nice pick up. I love mine and have gone through a few looking for the best. What I have seen is usually the graphics are good but it is the black boarders that flake. That and the glass hold downs are rusted and usually the legs have some spots too and the levelers are gone. The CPs seem to hold up pretty well as does the rest of the cab but I too noticed lots of them where the door warps.

Great game though and the cocktail really is fun if you have the space for it.

Just an update. I bought new buttons from Bob but they sat way too high for my preference.

I ended up ultrasonic cleaning the old ones and then cleaning them with Novus. Not perfect but they look much better!

The board worked great but the monitor was dead. I capped the board, AR, and monitor. Everything fired right up! Now to powder coat the legs and glass clips, then figure out what to do on the artwork.

I am in the process of making a new edge connector for the wiring harness. I hate crimping! This way I won't have any issues with power.
