My "Perey" Turnstile Restoration

That casting looks like it wouldn't hold a weld, what type of weld did you use to fix it? Mig, Arc, bottles. Any shot of the actual weld?

Amazing job refinishing the exterior.... I love the industrial color.

I'm not sure what the guy used to weld it. He told me, but I forgot. He has his own welding business, so I figured if he can't do it then it's beyond repair. He said it spattered a lot; but he was able to build it up pretty good. One thing is for sure, the weld itself is never going to break. If the casting gives in again, it will be in a different spot. The weld is not pretty by any means, but that's ok, it's hidden inside the body. I guess I didn't snap a picture of it. I'll have to take a good picture of it....

Oh yeah, the welder also said he sandblasted the broken parts, and welded it in short bursts as to not heat up the hydraulic fluid inside the mechanism.

AWESOME!! I enjoy seeing something different. I love any type of restoration. I love restoring old radios, motorcycles along with arcade games. I would restore old cars and trucks if I had more $$$. Nice work. Thanks for the pics. Did you ever see the episode of American Restoration where Rick restored an old turnstile?

I wondered if Rick had restored one. I missed that episode. I'm sure he did a better job than I did! Mine is far from perfect, believe me. It turned out ok for what little talent I have. Thanks for the comments.

That's a great job and very neat to see. Reminds me.. far different hobby, but there are a lot of folks who restore the old woodworking equipment. Unisaws from the 1940s are most common and retrofitted with modern fences, making REALLY nice saws, but there are people who restore the OLD bandsaws and such. Very cool to see old things brought back to life..

You're very humble. Yours looks superb.

That is totally awesome!!! And a very rare piece to come by. I just love it....and the restoration looks like perfection. Isn't there a show on TV that does this very thing? I think they have some serious competition!

You need to drop a mechanical counter inside it....so it counts the number of times anyone (yourself included).....walks into the Lost Highway arcade. Arcade entry stats! LOL....

Great job John!!!

Thanks Alan. It sure would be cool to have a counter. I do know this, a LOT of people did walk thru this one. The deckplate is visibly worn; that's pretty cool...
