Before you bust on me, Gaplus is hard! Especially because I have a version where you can't do the shooting star ship upgrade trick. What I finally realized last night was that the game gives you hints of the swarms of ships with a flashing star! That helped me get through the reverse stages without losing ships. I think that along with tuning up the joystick and buttons I can do better yet.

I just wish there was a high score save kit for Gaplus and Galaga. I think there is one for Galaga, but I have never seen it. I even made a thread here and no one pointed me in the right direction.

Yeah, you gotta practice some there :D Here's a screenshot from a MAME game of mine (using a laptop keyboard!), at the start of Parsec 9:

Of course, I maxed out the hits on both bonus stages, and got an extra 30K bonus on the 2nd one (if you spell out GAPLUS, you also get a random bonus of 10K-40K)

Did you have a Gaplus and sell it?

I really don't play it or any of my games enough.

You're damn straight, it's hard as hell!! I've managed a little over 200k once and all other attempts fell far short of that. If you think it's hard now, just get a little better and you'll see how evil it can get.

Thumbs up for a cool game though.

Hector

I'm horrible at this game, I can't even get past the 4th stage. :D

I think I found the Galaga High Score Save kit you were asking about. Don't have one, but looks cool : http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=HSGALAGA

Ive got this in my cab and I know alot of others do too. You can also switch from regular shot mode to rapid fire mode before the game starts. Only problem is, is that no matter which you choose the high scores get saved to the same screen.

Nah, I still have it. I don't really ever use it for Gaplus though, I rotated the monitor 180 degrees so I could use my Crazy Kong boards in it :D (they display upside down compared to Gaplus). I put in one of those JAMMA cabinet adapters, and can use them that way, and also use a 48-in-1 (it lets you set the display either way) which also has Galaga 3 on it. I didn't do any mods to the cab, just basically unplugged the harness from the Gaplus board and put in the JAMMA cab adapter, so I could switch it back in a few minutes. (well, it might take a little longer to rotate the monitor back)

Why didn't you put a switch on the yoke to flip the video? It is easy.

I've looked into it...there's not much extra wire to splice into, plus I didn't really want to hack any of the wiring.

Your monitor doesn't have spade connectors to the yoke?

Nope. It's got a 5-prong plug on the chassis end (with one prong empty), a short coil of wire, and the other end, the wires are soldered to the yoke. It's a G07 if that makes a difference. The coil of wire isn't really very long, and I don't want 2 metal switches hanging loose near all that (potential) high voltage

Mine is a G06 too, not that I would be doing any of that anyway. :D
