I finally finished my Pac-Man restoration. It took quite a long time, since my wife and I had a new baby this summer and I had a bunch of home renovation projects to do, so I didn't have much free time to work on it. It's my first full restoration and I think it turned out really nice. Here's a list of what I did:
- stripped control panel, Bondo'd the extra holes, repainted it
- added new CPO and buttons, cleaned and rebuilt the joystick
- sanded coin door to bare metal, repainted, added new logo plate and lights
- sanded all other metal parts (speaker grille, bezel bracket, etc.) and repainted
- made a 'power center' with switcher, new fuse holders, etc., repainted iso
- recapped the monitor and replaced a few pots, got it working
- purchased a new bezel from a fellow KLOV member, touched up the paint on it
- purchased a Pac PCB from a fellow KLOV member
- made a complete wiring harness
- cleaned and polished marquee with Novus, touched up with acrylic paint
- cut off all peeling and bubbling areas of the plywood, applied Bondo, sanded cab
- made a new back door
- applied wood hardener to the base and top of cab, Bondo'd base, added new leg levelers
- primed and repainted the cab, including stenciled side art
Here's a Flickr photoset with lots of pics I took along the way:
