My ongoing DK restoration project - Thanks gutsman004

Well, thanks to gutsman004 (Greg), I now have my first arcade project. It is a Donkey Kong. It will be a good bit of work but I'm looking forward to it and I will post updates in this thread.

A little about me. I am 41yrs old and I've been married for 19 yrs and have two boys age 16 & 11. I am a network admin/IT for a company of about 60+ employees. I also used to be into hot rodding so I have some bondo experience haha! I also have painted a couple of cars so I can paint too. I started in electronics school, but did not finish due to having to move for a job. But that and my desire for nice auto stereo systems have given me soldering & wiring experience.

Now I might sound like Spiccoli on Fast Times at Ridgemont High...but I have some tools.

What I don't have is any knowledge. But I know between gutsman004 and you guys, help is around the corner ;)

When I get home today I'm going snap some pictures and post here. Hopefully you guys will get to ride along a successful restoration. There may be curse words along the way, but it can't be nearly as bad as getting that rear header bolt started on a small block chevy! :D

Thanks for tuning in and again a huge thanks to gutsman004 for planting a seed for another addict!

Is that a fiberboard cab?

If so that t-molding is offset, not sure if anyone makes it.

If that is offset T-molding then hold off on buying any.
Audiomidman is working on having it reproduced.
If it is a plywood cab with regular T-Molding then check his site for the best Ninty,Did I just say Ninty?,T-Molding available.OMGWTFBBQ.
www.chompingquarters.com.

Not sure if it's offset or not. Gutsman said it is not fiberboard. And he sent me some links, one of which is the one you just said. I just haven't had time to go through all of the links he sent me.

Thanks for the heads up though!

Whoops! Correction on my part. It is fiberboard and it IS offset. So xxstatic you were spot on there:

I'll be ordering from chompingquarters.com.

Ah,I stand corrected.Guess I should have done a double take on it.Or maybe it's offset due to the cab being beat up. ;):D

No problem! Going to be a fun project! Just don't mame it lest you incur the wrath of many a klover.:D

No, not going to mame it. If I do a mame it will be with a generic cab, a gutted cab, or a homemade cab. I don't want to be beaten to death this early in the my klov membership.

I got it much more clean. Now it doesn't look nearly as scary except for the cabinet side panels. But I actually think I can either do something with these or maybe make some new ones. My thoughts are if I fail on the new ones, use the sides for a future mame cabinet. Gutsman004 found a Powersupply and a possibility on an iso transformer for it. I'm waiting to hear on the iso.

That's in a lot better shape than my fiberboard DK was when I got it, I ended up picking up a plywood cab cheaply and going the resto route that way, does sound like offset t-molding is on the horizon so you should have pretty good timing there.:)

How did that project turn out for you? Any pics?

BTW, I was able to latch onto an ISO Transformer from rmackie6661, so that should be on the way soon. Gutsman004 was told that the power supply and ISO were the problems. As bad of corrosion is on the outside of them, it's no wonder if that is in fact the problem. We'll see. I'll really be motivated to spruce this thing up if I can get it to fire up. Hopefully not a real fire :D

Can someone tell me what that black cardboard shroud is called that goes around the monitor? Bezel, shroud, ???

Thanks!
