Remember when I sold my freshly restored Choplifter and the guy who bought it said he was going to turn it into a Streetfighter?

http://charleston.craigslist.org/vgm/2221278470.html

I sold it to him for 250, apparently the crap CPO and marquee cost him 350 dollars. He really got taken!!! You can actually still see the Choplifter CPO, the helicopter is still visible.

I cry now

Ugh.

This is why non-collectors always get the "What do you plan on doing with it?" question from me before there's an agreement to the sale, or money is exchanged, or the game leaves my hands.

It's Choplifter, so it could've been worse, and you can't always prevent a new owner from doing this. Still, it's worth a try.

Deep down, doesn't it kind of piss you off? I know it drives me a little nuts when I see someone alter then resell a machine that I worked on.

I know, right? I actually put a ton of work into it, i had gotten it for free, but ended up with about 100 in it, and many hours. I thought it was a 400-500 game, but I purposely sell low, so I dont think I can make a living off this. Wouldnt be a hobby then! Same as my day job, I do all the work, so somebody else can make money!!

I should email him and offer 250

The only way you can prevent it from happening is either to sell it to people you know won't do that, or keep the machine. Either way, if you're looking to dump a machine for one reason or another, it's out of your hands at that point.

One of you guys should email him, and say your interested, but would like to convert it to a Choplifter! He is probably selling the Choplifter pcb for 200 dollars somewhere else!!

Heck, I think it's more likely he threw it out. Based on what he obviously doesn't know re: value of games, he probably thought it was worthless.

Son of a........

!@#$%^&*( I would've paid $200 just for you to hold onto that for when I made a trip down that way. I paid $250 for a carcas running choplifter, just because I wanted to play the game so bad. What's your high score?

Are working Choplifter boards rare or something? I have one with a harness (hacked into atari firefox guts). Figured they were a dime a dozen.

Yuck I paid a 100 for my Street Fighter 2 and it was prettier than that crap conversion ;-). At least you know he wasted alot of money and probably wont be able to sell it.

Dude, if I had the funds, I'd buy that SF 2, return it to it's former Choplifter state, and give it back to you.

Choplifter is one of my favorite games, and your machine was one of the best I'd ever seen.
Shame on that choad for butchering it into a lame sauce Street Fighter II.

Kyle

I emailed him. :D

I'll feel your pain!

Want me to send him an email inquiring about it and tell him that BECAUSE it looks like a choplifter cab, I wont pay more than $250 for it. LOL!

Everyone should email and act interested, then say they feel it is overpriced and would pay more but it looks too much like a choplifter! LOL!! Tell him that $250 is the right price for it.

Mine:

Hi - saw your listing. You might not know this, but your Street Fighter used to be a Choplifter; you can still see the artwork underneath on the CP. One of the best games ever, and very valuable when it was complete. It was common for operators to convert older games in the early 90s to Street Fighter, so some moron must've done it back then.

The cabinet would make kind of a cool conversation piece, though. I'll give you $100 and you can keep all of the Street Fighter garbage in that cab. Deal?

(Didn't send it, though.) ;)
