My next rescue attempt- G07

we have rubbing alcohol and paper towel. that's worked sufficiently for me. in a previous life I think I've gone through over 100 monitors at the place I work. (I may be underrating the figure)
I have only been in the hobby since 2017, I've fixed probably 20 monitors all together with a few for friends and the odd referal. So I haven't seen everything like you have at this point.

Eh, got another challenge. It arrived broken....the pics don't show it, but it's broken quite a bit more than it looks.

Removed parts, washed it, ran a bunch of jumpers......now it's time to install $100+ in parts and see if it works. I used 20 gauge steel wire for a few jumpers, for strength.

This one is missing a bunch of parts and looks like hell. No breaks that I can see. X401,402 are missing so either this one had v collapse, or was relegated to parts duty. And clearly I've removed the parts that I intend to change.

This reminds me when i was like 18 before i owned my dads amusement company and I remember some G07's in for repair to PNL and they sent one back that said "beyond economical repair" lmao. PNL was such a shit company they literally only fixed what was needed to make the chassis run then 4 months later the operator was sending it back in for repair.

Before I taught myself or well a lot of youtube help from Mikes videos and this site to just fix them myself the right way.

Love seeing these rebuilds. Its always doable and I enjoy it as well.

I became self aware in a time when I saw those fly by night game technicians fix my grandpa's games and they would break the same way something like 2-4 weeks later. then they get called back. scotch tape and bubblegum fixes I call them.

20 some years later when I got the nod to fix games, in a total different era mind you, I did it the opposite way. I have the luxury that I have all the time in the universe where I work now that I can just go super thorough and exhaust pretty much every potential failure. I've done jobs for people that hate the thorough way, even though I knocked out a lot of volume in like 2 days at their locations.

my repeat business came from doing it right the first time, and said business wasn't through advertising, it was one operator telling another. I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore, but it was pretty wild to experience for a time.

but oh yes, PNL. my approach to monitors was the direct opposite of theirs. they had a purpose, if you had some nonsense issue you can't figure out, you torch your money letting them do it. you solidify the rest yourself to make it indestructible. still stupid how much they charged for their 10% service.

Lol right. So far ive yet to need to use the easy button to figure a tricky problem out. Yep 10% service is a great way to explain what PNL does lmao. The last company I was using was speedys one stop, then the guy that worked there or im pretty sure its the same guy works out of arcademonitorrepair.com now but he does pretty good work and a little more than what PNL does he will usually replace like all the high voltage caps at least lol. Still SUPER expensive though. Luckily since i started watching mikes videos like 2 years ago and help from here and the arcade monitor repair FB page ive been able to do everything myself, Mikes videos have probably saved me at least 1000$ by now if not more 😂

However I got a CGM 2500 and couple Pentranic dual res chassis in the hole and i know nothing of them other than they are kinda similar to makvision and ive actually had good luck rebuilding the 3 makvision chassis Ive worked on so far, in general they just have a shitty HoT and the shittiest caps in the world, cap kit and put in the FJL HoT and good to go lol.

fun fact about CGM 2500: they're yoke compatible with K7000 if you needed another option

their flybacks are unobtanium

Yeah i already shotgunned a k7000 in it to see lol. I havent got to it yet ill probably try to fix the cgm chassis for fun just to see it looks like a relatively easy one to work on. However I do have like 10 k7000 25" chassis lol 5 already rebuilt and ready to go and an extra k7000 frame to boot so if the cgm gives me hell thats probably the route ill go

I saw you when you woke up this morning.

I knew of your terroristic plot.

also yes I think the CGM 2500 is kind of a K7000 clone, a bootleg for Neo Geos if you will. we had 1 or 2 of them when I worked with gamefixer, flyback was DOA, I said we can use a K7000. the rest is history.

Lmao. Yep it came out of a 4 slot neo geo and where I plan for it to go back home to eventually when I get time to restore it. Ive got a NBA jam currently im in the middle of, and a california speed and 2 rush 2049s on deck. A T2 and Aerosmith in storage that i need to get the sound board out of the t2 and main board out of Aerosmith and recapped at least before they destroy themselves and its too late.

Im a full time operator so I maybe get a few hours each day to my "hobby" lol even though a lot of them I still route at pizza places bowling alleys etc, some do alright some are just free storage lmao. Jukeboxes, pool tables, dartboards and leagues is where the money flows. Leagues are all starting so its going to be a long month of new felt on pool tables and cleaning tips out of dartboards lol.

Ok back on track with this thread: I got this bad boy pretty close: Red screen.

They both tested good in and out of circuit, but I changed x101 and x102 and now have this.

New one with Horizontal collapse. It had a new width coil installed. But I took it down to bare bones, and now see a couple of cracks. Plenty of marginal solder pads as well. This one could be a challenge. Anyway a couple of pics, after parts removal. Getting ready to wash it and repair the breaks.

I recommend you Avoid ALLGOOD technical services inc. 😃

Turned out the be no real issue.

Which brings me to my high horse....... :) .....................

It is MY opinion that it is a complete waste of time to troubleshoot a g07 without first rebuilding it. Some people want to learn, not me. I know enough............I don't like my time wasted.
