DK was the first cab I bought and it got me into this mess.
As far as NOS and repro side art there are a few minor differences but you need to know what to look for.
I have a set I got a few years back for only $70 shipped.
When side by side there are differences in Mario's fingers and the barrels on the NOS are a bit darker in color than the repro.
The repro art is great though.

Playing devil's advocate here, but how do you know the darker color isn't just discoloration from sitting for close to 30 years?

All the barrels on the NOS are the exact same shade and I would think there would be differences in them if it was just discoloration.
The fingers is where I tell the difference. On the repro the nails are rounder and white while on the NOS they are thin and solid black.

They look quite a bit different.
I was surprised at the difference.
That is something I don't think you would really notice unless you knew about it or had them side by side.
There are a few other differences,but I would have to pull out the NOS and compare it to the repro on my DK.
For $70 I couldn't pass on the NOS.
When I eventually repaint the DK I will put the NOS on it.

Yeah, for sure, as that's not much more than the repro. Good deal. I'd love to see a pic of that see the comparison.

Got it cleaned, and in the house, and I have to say, it cleaned up pretty well!!

I restored mine with 'repro' artwork and couldn't really see any difference between it and the original stuff:

I believe he has the original Japanese board and marquee as well (Doesn't have "of America"). I have no idea how he found the Japanese stickers. Maybe custom repro? The guy is a tech guy by day and Japanese culture historian by night.

I just meant that if possible (both financially and realistically), I would like to keep things as original as possible. Now since my fixing restoration experience is this side of null
, maybe I am talking out of my (well you know where). If that is the case, I apologize, but that is how noobs learn. I have a Roadblasters that I want to get the Atari System 1 side art for, but haven't priced out yet. Since that is more generic, does anyone know if it is a cheaper piece?

Congratulations! I remember bringing home my DK about 4 years ago, and that was a very good day!
very nice. so, did the buttons clean up well? i did some heavy polishing with novus on the ones in my mario bros for the sorta-resto i'm doing right now, and they cleaned up very well. i would personally clean and keep the originals if salvagable. ironically, the mike's arcade set appears to be the right shade of blue, as my original buttons are lighter underneath, but the fading to darker blue looks much better than that middle of the road blue.

They did actually! Im going to order some novus though, and give it a good thorough cleaning. There was a small cig burn above one of the buttons, but Im pretty sure a little bit of elbow grease will take care of it. I'll hang on to the mikes buttons in case I need them some day. I'll try to get some pics of the cp later today when I get off of work.
