Been looking for one of these for quite some time. Finally found one that has had some hard times and needs nurturing and loving to get her back in shape. I had to brave some pretty rough storms between Georgia and Tennessee getting the game back home tonight. Heres one pic, I'll post more tomorrow when I can do a tear down on this baby. For now, Shes spending the night in the garage.

Congrats. Getting the DK that you've been looking for is like an added layer of inner security. Of course I also said that about my beermeister.

Great to see you catch something you were looking for. Looks to be in decent shape. Parts are easy to find for DK. Good luck in getting it up and running.

Congrats! It must have been a rewarding road trip for you.

DK, Milky Way and soda. What more could I guy ask for? :)

Haha, indeed! I stopped off at the GA/TN welcome center at the state line for a little refreshment. It was a bit warm down there yesterday! The game overall is in fantastic shape. The cab is very sold and has virtually no cracks or chips in it. The paint has some scratches, and the sideart is in decent shape. It def needs a scrub down, as it has been sitting in a garage for upwards of ten or fifteen years from what I was told. The bezel was knocked out of it, not sure what happened there, and the joystick doesnt seem to move. The original cpo is in damn fine shape, I didnt notice any cig burns in it. I actually have the mikes arcade replacement buttons, but the original buttons look very good, and I'm sure will look better once I clean everything. Whats really cool, is, I have been planning on building a DK for quite some time and have a very nice little stockpile of parts in my basement, and I have everything this cab needs right down to the t-molding, and even the flyer keychain. Once I clean her up, I will decide weather or not I should purchase new side art, but Im leaning towards yes, as, this baby is going to go upstairs and I want to show her off!

The board plays the boot up sound, but then goes to garbage. I reseated all the roms, but no dice. Luckily, I have been sitting on a dk board that I picked up at auction. Popped it in, and shazam! Looks like the screen has a small issue though.. the left side has collapse. I may order a cap kit and see if that helps, but I also have two nintendo monitors hanging around downstairs I could use. (Like I said, I've been stock piling dk stuff for quite some time!)

Awesome.

I vote yes on new side art. From the picture, it looks like your CPO will clean up really nice. No cigarette burns (that I can tell)! Those original buttons are highly sought after and look like they'd clean up fine as well. I say keep them and store Mike's buttons a backup.

New art = YES IMHO :)

Great score! I want a DK, looks like I am getting an empty cab so I can build myself one! The cab on yours looks nice for being original, clean that puppy up and put up some pics!

My vote on side art depends on one thing, will it be NOS art or repro.

NOS - yes

repro - no

That cab is too nice to put repro art on it.

New art? What does it cost?

If you have expendable income, then go for it!

If it were me, I would put it between 2 other games and call it a day and enjoy it:)

What's "too nice" about it? Looks like a standard DK cab in OK shape to me. Bottom has damage at the edges, there's a big white pressure scratch across the other side and the artwork is trashed on that same side. Have you actually seen the screened repro DK art? It looks exactly like the original. These cabs are easy to restore and the screened repro artwork is cheap.

+1

I think there are many guys in here including myself that are more than happy with their repro side art. To be honest, I would think a NOS set (if you could find one) would most likely be faded or discolored after 30 years. Why choose that?

The bigger problems with NOS art for Donkey Kong is the adhesive is old and doesn't work well and they get wrikles from being stored for so long. There is NOS DK art around every once in a while though.

Before you go spending money on the "left side collapse" do some adjusting to the verticle and horrizontal adjusments ON THE BOARD. They are the two pots at the top. Having the left side of the screen "fall" downward is (apparently) a really common symptom with DK and DK Jrs. Just nudging the pot or the board can cause it. If you fiddle with the pot a little it usually fixes it. Or you can replace the pot all together and that's supposed to remedy it entirely. I usualy just fiddle with mine when it happens, which is almost always after I've taken the board out or moved it in some way.

There are some scratches yes, but for a hundy and a half, Id say I made out pretty well. I swapped the z80 chip out on the board and it booted right up, finally its something simple! Yeah, Im def gonna go repro route very soon. I'll have this thing cleaned up and running by tonight for sure. Heading out to the garage right now to scrub her down!
