I realize that there are a lot of people here that swap out and repair their games on a daily basis, but what I managed today was a first for me, and I actually got it right on the first try.
My converted 48-1 Neo Geo came with a crappy 17 inch home CRT monitor which was OK, but left a lot to be desired. I checked out Craigslist and found a 22" 5 BNC type monitor being given away for free. Luckily it was still available. Monitors up to 19" are regularly given away, but 21"+ and people usually still want money for them.
I got it home and stripped off the case but left the cage on. I tested it and it worked fine:
I then got to taking out the old monitor and modifying the platform so that the new larger screen would fit:
After lining it up and hooking up the connections I trimmed the surround to fit. All I need now is a right sized bezel and some minor screen adjustments and it will be complete:
I like learning new stuff in my old age, and it felt good doing this and not screwing it up. The new monitor is a great improvement over what I had in there, and it has me thinking I can take on more ambitious projects when I finish restoring this cabinet.
