alright, so finally here's some pics of my tron. it's been through a lot in the last month. i originally got it from fred (vespertillio) due to his divorce, and the fact that he needed money.

when i got it home, it was a bit rough, had soda or something spilled all over the front, the cpo was torn (he had a new one he gave me), the joystick was nasty and discolored greenish, and it had pretty good water damage on the left side and the front, both at the bottoms.

first, i attacked the water damage. used the elmer's glue wood stabilizer which worked well. i soaked the hell out of that side in it, and sanded it and painted it. initially did the same to the front base but a week ago i noticed a chip coming off, and ended up cutting off the bottom 4" and replacing it with a piece of mdf due to the rot.

aside from that, it took a lot of goof off to get all the sticky stuff off the front. i then cleaned (the same stuff from the front) all the sticky shit off the coin door, and repainted that. put in a new lock, and put that back in.

also, i replaced the mcr interconnect cables, and capped the monitor and amp board, and rebuilt the power supply.

replaced the cpo and spinner decal, and put on a new joystick handle from groovy game gear. really looks nice on there compared to the old one. and finally, the inner art. so, i painted the edges on the inside as they were worn paintwise, and had trouble with the inner art due to gouging it when putting the shroud back in. i ended up cutting out a chunk on the right side (just the black/orange part) and put in a piece exactly the same size i used from the trimmings i had left.

it still eventually needs side art and a good painting of the sides, but i'm not too concerned, as i more or less want it to look decent and don't care too much about a full restoration. so here's a few pics.

Turned out really nice. You can't tell that you patched a panel at all. No need to really worry about the sides right now anyway with where you have it. Looks good!

Was the coin door grey or did you paint it? Aren't they usually black on Tron's?

i did paint it. it was black, but i had this grey rustoleum hammered paint lying around, so i used that. it doesn't look too bad for now, but i'll probably paint it black sooner or later...

...

Im not a fan of the coin door. Why that color vs black?
I have a real nice black Midway Coin door if you need one.

Definitely put it next to Satan's Hollow. It looks great...and as you said, with it inbetween other games, you don't really have to worry about the sideart right now. If you do, I'd recommend the "B" grade...that's what I have and couldn't find a thing wrong with it. However, with your setup, I'd rather save up for plastics.

yeah. the shroud is good, but needs new art due to cracking, and my lower plastic below the cp is ok, just needs to have the scuffs taken off. the big thing faded is the curved plastic above the cp. however, i need to get a satan's hollow CPO before i drop 95$ on the plastic.

Great work Jim. Remember, it's all about the game working first, then looking perfect second.. Don't let these guys take away from your efforts by pointing out stuff like a gray coin door. We all know you will get there with it. :D

I also want to give you props for hacking off and replacing that bottom 4"...Lord I know how rough that it. Repainting a coin door ain't jack compared to that!
