My new tool...uh, toy.

It was advertised for $1875 online. The unit priced online didnt include any tips so im guessing thats the price difference. I printed the ad out and took it with me, they matched the price.

I got the unit and a ton of consumables for about the same price as retail on the unit. I was lucky and they even had an adapter that will let me use the tips from my old Pace unit in this one. I probably have 40 or so of them so thats a big deal. Also, all the filters are the same so I can use my old stock on those too.
I got this set up and had a little time to test it out. All I can say is man what a difference in this one and my old one. My first test was a 68000 64 pin CPU chip. I desoldered it and the chip fell out on its own. So far im very impressed with it. Its very quiet too compared to the old one.
It has the button on the handpiece and my old one was foot operated. I keep finding myself searching for my foot pedal...gotta get used to that but I like the pushbutton much better.

gotopac.com is my local supplier. :D They rock!

Welcome to the big leagues. That's a damn nice station and you'll love it.

Believe me, I loved my old Pace unit too but it was at least 20 years old and was starting to show its age. I had to make a diaphragm out of some plastic to repair the vaccum pump last month. The heater is no longer available so when that one goes I would have been on the creek without a paddle.
Yes, I love this thing already. Its alot of cash to drop on something but I know it will pay for itself just as my old one did. I also splurged and got the higher end unit with the handpieces to do surface mount stuff. Im going to start learning to do some SMT work since there have been a few occasions where I needed it.

I buy all my pace stuff from marks electronics. Its up around DC/college park area and is only 1.5 hour drive for me. The lady that works the sales counter has worked there for 37 years! She really knows the pace stuff well and is very helpful when I call. That place is an excellent example of old school customer service, cant beat it.

Hey Rip, is that Mark Electronic Supply in Beltsville? It'd be a hike from NoVA but from the sounds it'd be well worth the trip. I know a bunch of folks in the local ham community who've been looking for a decent b&m source for wire/tools/etc, so I could probably easily throw a bunch of business their way.

Great looking station, wish I had half the skills/experience to make proper use of that monster. :)
