I played Galaxian back in the day. I could clear a few screens and was okay at it.
I still think Galaga is a better game in almost every way.
You should at least play Galaga one time to see what the differences are. Having both games together in your arcade would be pretty cool, and a row consisting of Galaxian, Galaga, Galaga 88 and Galaga 3 would be pretty nice, even though Galaga 3 was a dog.
This has been discussed a good number of time around several forums and I think this thread is about GALAXIAN.
I've said it before and I'll say it once more:
Galaga is for boys
Galaxian is for men
Anyway back on topic: That picture of that restored Galaxian somewhat worries me.
In fact I think the color match of Mamemarquees on the blue is MUCH better than the kick-plate. I know Rich's work is brilliant (I've got his excellent Galaxian CPO) but this blue is _way_ too baby-blue. It should be a bit darkish like that side-art. PLUS it looks to be shiny and that's definitely not what it was originally.
About the kick-plate missing the blue: I bet they were out of blue paint at the factory and couldn't really be bothered about it....
That blue T-molding still looks strange. In fact, I've become -so- used to my black-leathered T-molding that I start finding the green T-molding not really great looking anymore....
For those unaware: the first runs of Galaxians (mine is nr. 815) originally had black leathered T-molding:
I'd love it if Rich would do a good run of kick-art again, but we will have to do some color matching !!
My sides are too good to replace, I'll leave the occasional scratch....
The coolest side-art is on Galaxian nr. 171 though:
I think they quickly realized the extra blue in the name "hid" the letters and changed it to the set-up we all know.
The exact same set-up (black leathered T-molding, blue in the Galaxian letters) can be seen on the machine on the flyer picture:
Anyway, congrats Phet on you Galaxian ! I recognize your story. It's a game I vividly remember from my youth and still enjoy today.
