Well, as of 12/17 here is the new home for the games. I havent physically been inside of it yet, but I got sent a few pics to check it out. The room is approximately 12 x 15 (so its a good size) and I think it has some potential...

Pros:
- Love that the gameroom is inside
- Love the tile (easy to move games)
- Love the amount of outlets
- Love the can lighting and lights are on dimmers
- Love the entrance with no door

Cons:
- Hate the window coverings
- Its a rental so paint is out (I think)

What do you think of the new space? I think there is plenty of room for a good amount of games, I think there is plenty of wall space for cool posters and art, and I like that little shelf on the wall for putting little arcade related knick nacks. There is also cable hookup if I wanted to add a TV at some point that that's cool.

Any google sketch up pros want to help me with the layout? The wall with the entrance door, and the back wall is 12' and the two others are 15'.

I'm stoked!

House looks cool.... glad to hear you scored a place. Has to feel great to have a place of your own.

Suggestion on the game room.... once you decide on a layout, throw a few rugs on the floor between the games to help absorb the sound....with that tile, it's gonna be a loud room.

I like the window coverings. They just about completely block out the light which will keep down glare. You are going to back games up against them anyway probably right? Congrats.

That looks too nice to be a rental, your rent must be as much as a mortgage payment

you've got some good space, jow. i think with the window coverings, you can just block them with a game. that's what i did with a window in my game room. bam - instant more space.

What do you mean? Isn't a rent payment technically someone else's mortgage when it comes to a home?

Great looking space...
The tile flooring is awesome...
I wouldn't sweat the wall coloring. I think the "arcade-meets-the-wife" look can look great as well (one of my favorite KLOV game rooms of all time, The Vintage Vault, comes to mind). :001_scool:

Can't wait to see update pics when you get your games moved in there :)

Yeah, I was thinking about the sound and how loud it will be. Should I have rugs out in front of the games to stand on you think?

Good point on that. I guess the lights will be out most of the time anyway, and even in the daytime they will be a great for keeping light out. The more I look at them, the more I dont mind them.

Yeah I like it, too. Im stoked to get started on filling the space.

Looks awesome Jow! Can't wait to see it with the games!

I have one 5' x 7' area rug in the center of my game room and it does help with the sound:

Just be careful with those tiles. If you break some with a big heavy game the owner may not be so pleased.

How big is your room?

That thought never even crossed my mind. How the heck would tiles break from games on wheels?

It happened to me before in a house I was in. Don't remember the game being on wheels but the leg leveler rested on the center of a tile when I set it down and it cracked the tile. Probably more likely with poorly installed or poor quality tile but you can certainly chip them up or break them if you aren't careful.

I would agree with both of those points. The big drag is that its a rental so you have to be relatively careful with what you do. Owning is nice, the only person you have to anwser to is the woman. Mine is onboard with whatever I want to do to my space after the bedrooms are added to the basement. Still crossing my fingers on getting a pin come tax refund time.

Sure is nice to have a blank slate to work from, though. The number of outlets is good. I don't have very many yet. Good luck!

Try putting the games back to back coming off the wall on the right towards the middle of the room. That is what I did in my old house in a room similar to that.

Wait, how do you mean? Im not sure Im understanding what you are saying.

BTW - Im playing with Google sketchup. Fun program, for sure.

You also dont realize how small 12x15 is until you use it, ha.

Started playing around with SketchUp. Suggestions welcomed.
