I picked up this old message board at a garage sale for free. Its 4ft X 2ft. It came with quite a few letters, but hardly any numbers, so I'll have to order a 1/2 inch letter/number kit so I can put up my arcade's high scores.

I blew out the channels(felt lined) with compressed air and Febreezed it. I used steel wool on the metal edging. Cleaned up pretty good. Not perfect, but it fits my theme very well. Not quite sure how old this thing is. Its fairly old. Anyone have an idea?

The mounting brackets were not 16" apart, so I made a mounting bar out of plywood, secured that to the wall then secured the high score board to that.

First pic is before cleanup. Must've come from an autobody shop.

Second pic is the manufacturer's tag. I couldn't find any info on the Advance Directory Co.

Last 2 pics: the board mounted to the wall. The utility pole to the left is crooked, making the board look crooked. More on that utility pole in an upcoming thread.

The camera flash makes the fading on the felt look worse than it is. In the dull light of my arcade it looks pretty good.

My guess is originally 1960's but used into the 1970's and hence the "Vinyl Top".

Yinyl tops were very popular in the 1970's.

Beyond the 70's too as the sunroof cutting was big in the late 1970's early 1980's.

Right on. That makes sense. A friend of mine said the board is worth a couple hundred bucks. I've seen some on ebay go for quite a bit. "Free" is nice!
