Just want to show off my new addition to my MK collection, my MK1 machine that was purchased from the original owner and operator in the Miami area.. about 3-4 months ago he posted an ad on craigslist for a pretty high price and I contacted him that I was very interested, but at a lower price.. I called and talked to the guy also, and he told me that he had a buyer already for his listed price so I forgot about it... he eventually pulled the ad and I figured it was gone.

well about 2 months ago he re-contacted me and recalled that I was serious about buying the machine and that he was sick of dealing with idiots telling him they were going to buy the machine and then never showing up or never calling him again (imagine that?), and he agreed to sell it to me for my price (nice market value price). Amazing deal IMO for an unmolested MK1 in this shape- I told him it was a done deal, but needed to work out the deals of picking it up and transporting it to my house... while he was an operator in Miami, he was north of there and it would literally be a 10 hour round trip pickup for me.. so with the help of the guys on the Florida pinball Boards, one of the guys picked up the machine and stored it in his garage, and I paid another to transport it to my house for the gas money.. what a great bunch of guys that are dedicated to our hobby for sure! I just hope I can repay all the good people in this hobby or "pay it forward" someday..

So, enough about that, it arrived this morning, and this is the nicest MK1 I've seen in person in 15 years. While I am a MK2 fan the most, MK1 got me started from the beginning and playing it on an original cab is definatley something special for me. Sure it's a slower game, but it's the memories and personal likes that feed my collection, not what everyone else likes. Here's some pics, followed by my current collection of MK cabs.. Needless to say, this will fit in nicely!!

Props again to the guys on the Florida forums for Kicking Ass!

Great job! Not many people have the full lineup.

Here's a preview of how they'll all look!

Looking forward to seeing how they all look lined up there.

that's a great pickup.

also, why is uncle fester staring at me from the side of the mk4 machine??? i've never seen an mk4 in the wild. is that REALLY what it looks like?

Hahaha yeah thats what it looks like! That MK1 cab is in awesome shape! I own one that I restored and its awesome to see one still with the original faded sideart! Excellent Purchase, I can guarantee you that people will go Woah when they'll see it. It's one of the most Iconic arcade game.

The pictures really don't do this machine justice!! It looks even better in person.

A lot of people forget that MK1 has a significant place in arcade game and video qame history because it was the very first game to have the extreme violence and graphic killing (known to most as fatalities). This game hit the arcades in 1992 when I was in college, and I must say it hooked me and I loved the violence and fatalities. The game drew nationwide attention from everywhere, hell I even remember Clinton talking about it... And because of mk1 we now have ratings on all games :). Super nintendo wussed out and kept the blood out it's version because of this also :)

I thought I'd be bored with this game given that I have mk2-4, but it has so many good memories that it's here to stay...

awesome set man I'd love all 4..the MK1 you bought is very clean and excellant hard to find MK1 in that good condition considering most people take the cabs and paint over them to restore other games....Mortal Kombat is classic why someone would destroy an original MK cab is beyond me but anyways I love your set.

Why cant I ever find one with no fade, like you and almost everyone else here seem to find?

Now you just need a KI & KI2 to keep the MK's company :D

Very nice pickup, looks like it's in perfect shape. Seems to be a bunch picked up by folks here in the last few months with unfaded sideart, hopefully for the rest of the people looking to get their hands on one, it's an indication of more coming available in that kind of condition.

That's why you always put MK4 between 2 other games, never on the end. Very nice pickup on the MK though.

Now I want all the Mortal Kombat cabs, makes me wish I never sold my Killer Instincts...

I've never really cared for the Killer Instinct games, just never got into them.. but I've seen way too many nice MK cabs converted to one of the KI games, so it must be good...

Well being that we are on the topic of mk, I thought I would drop in and show mine off aswell. I had to drive 12+ hours round trip back in nov. to score my mk1. But it was worth it to complete my collection and mine is in pretty good shape too.

Awesome collection bulldawg... I had a good friend accompany me to get my Mint MK2, and that was about 11 hours total.. it was a trip I'll never forget. We then played it almost non-stop for the rest of the weekend when we got back!

Sometimes it's about the hunt with these machines, it's funny to think about the story behind what I went through to get each machine in my collection.. but I'm glad the hunts over (at least for the MK series) so I can enjoy playing them anytime I feel like it..

Looks really nice! It's true, it's hard to find MK1's in nice unfaded condition. It took me years to find one within driving distance. And the front and CP looked really bad, plus it had been converted to MK3. I knew it could be changed back though!

Watching people post all the MK's together makes me think of keeping all of mine and starting an MK row. Currently missing MK3 only though I do have a UMK3 board I could throw in a different MK cab.

If you're a big fan of the series and have the room, why not keep them? In my search for my collection I found that 4 out of 5 cabs that were for sale were conversion cabs of some sort... and on top of that, if they were an MK 1 or 2, at least half of those had been converted in a way that destroyed the original art and/or cab in some way.. So with given the remaining games left, as would be expected a lot of those were beat up, scratched, water damaged, etc., finding and having a mint one to me was no easy task.. so I don't plan on giving any of mine up :)

And I'm not surprised that the MK3 cab would be the only one that's missing, it is the hardest one to find for sale IMO, the MK1 and 2 cabs are out there in good numbers, and the MK4 cabs just don't seem to be as desirable because of the art and gameplay (I love the MK4 art and gameplay personally :) )

I have thought about doing a multi-cab, but again I'm just too much of a MK fan and personally enjoy the art on each cab and having each game running side by side to me is so much better than just being able to select a PCB..
