My New Killer Instinct Project - Thanks to VectorJunkie

So yesterday I got a PM from VectorJunkie saying he was wanting to sell off the KI he "SAVED from a life of MAME" back in October for $150. (I had pm'd him when he got it to keep me in mind if he ever wanted to sell it.)
See thread here: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=153314

Of course I said I wanted it. So today I went and picked it up!

Here's the down low:

The good:
• Cabinet is solid
• Art is in good shape
• Board, switcher, power supply are all there
• New sticks and buttons are there!
• CPO looks mint!
• Marquee and speaker cover look mint
• Glass is clean no scratches
• Coin doors are there and look great

The Bad
• No leg levelers - Bob Roberts here I come!
• Monitor is MIA - I have a standard res 25" donor from a GT I can use

The Ugly
• Some really bad touchup paint work on the sides and front of the Control Panel - Gonna Try Graffiti Remover
• Back of cabinet was cut out - I plan on rebuilding
• Back door missing - I plan on rebuilding
• Harness is hacked at the controls to put in MAME - Already ordered a used harness
• Fan is missing - Fan is coming with the harness i bought
• There are four mystery holes on the sides near the back of the cabinet. Not sure why they are there? Looked at my NBA Jam cabinet and it doesn't have them or anything in them.

What I Need:
• Side and front Control Panel Decals
• Lower Monitor mounts

Bonus
• I have a KI2 board I know works that I can use in it as well!

Take a look!

I hate when they remove the legs. I have a MK2 conversion that had the legs removed and it badly damaged the bottom of the sides....

Nice pickup. Love seeing KIs saved from MAMErs.

I would guess they were going to add some crazy monitor mount in there with the 4 holes added?

Bonus quiz: Identify what game the scrap wood came from to build the brace under the control panel. Also look inside the coin box area smokinfish, at the side rails and see if there is art there as well.

I'll take a look today. I thought the art was Rampage at first glance but thats not right.

Doing so research on KI, I found allot of them turn into MAME.
Turns out the mystery hole on the side of the control panel is for a MAME power button.

Wow, The side art looks to be in good condition. This is definitely one for my wish list.

Here's a clue to the scrap: it's from a pinball. Pieces from the same game (maybe the same exact piece of wood?) were used in my KI cabinet.

The piece is from a Red & Ted's Roadshow pinball - the side of the cabinet.

I never got into KI back when it came out, but the cabinet is pretty cool. Good luck with fixing it up :) It's too bad that the back was hacked up, but hopefully you can fix it. I can't imagine why the guy couldn't tell the monitor could be removed right out the front.

You know it's funny when I used to have 1 or 2 games I was so concerned with the side art and the back doors looking as good as possible.

Once I hit 10, they sit so close together that you can't even see the side art! Now, I'm all about control panels, coin doors and Marquees! :D
