This thing is complete, but a mess. The horses are made of some sort of rubber. I have two legs broken off and other pieces nearly coming off. I should be able to use some sort of adhesive to hold it together. I am first going to get the timer working.

It plays a tune. To my surprise, there is a music box inside. I have it now sitting in my EvapoRust. I had to clean off the mud nest off of the inside. It sorta played a tune. I hope it plays better all cleaned up.

The motor works. It would not spin when I picked it up. It has a solenoid that locks the carousel in place when it times out. That was seized up. I have the pin out and the solenoid moves freely. The coil should be fine.

Now, to fix those broken legs. I used a paper towel tube as a internal splint. I had some Lexel adhesive that I used around the splint and then on the external repair. I am painting it later, so it should blend out.

I am going to paint them all with Plasti-Dip in a spray can. That should fill in some cracks and bring life back into the horses.

I got the base coat on all the horses. It will not look as colorful as the original, but better than when it was sun faded.

I am almost done painting them. I will do some touch-ups along the way. It turned out pretty well compared to what I started with. I taped some of it off and other places I used those oil based paint pens.

Came here expecting to see some kind of new souped-up hot rod.

But it's an actual kiddie ride, lol.

Nice find! I love that guys here are saving and restoring these, as they're another underappreciated part of this hobby, IMO.

This is going to look great when done, but I do not have the room for it. I like doing this stuff to get it working and back to being enjoyed again.

Two of the handles were missing. I made some out of a dowel with a Dremel, file and some sandpaper. I had to paint them because of differing wood grains. They will be color matched to each individual horse later.

I am now waiting on the powder coater. I was given a time-frame of a month which has now passed. The company that I used does park benches and other commercial stuff. I just have to wait for them to get to my side project.

Looks awesome. Does Evaporust only hit the rust or does it ever eat into the metal a little bit too? With those little bumps music boxes have, I would've wondered if it was safe to use on that. I assume it probably is, but the thought crossed my mind.

I guess it would matter more if the bumps held some kind of tune and even a microscopic difference could throw it off, but they don't, so even if they get worn a little all I think all it would do is affect volume/intensity.

It was a mild rust. From my experience, it only takes away rust. If the metal is unstable in the first place, there is no going back.

Running it by hand, the music plays fine.

Just got back from the powder coater. I was quoted a month, but it was not much over that.
For $214, there was no way that I could not get it to come out this good.

Now, I have to get this thing assembled and wired.

I am nearly completed. I am just waiting on my orders from Crow River and Café Express to arrive. Then I can put on the coin label and some horse stickers. There is some minor touch-up work to do, but it looks pretty good.
