My New Ghostbusters 2 Nintendo Scratch Build

That's awesome!

Rick was a great help on that smb3. I'm glad the idea of doing the nes has worked, I don't like that the hardware has gotten so expensive to go full on arcade original every time. I prefer original, but sometimes going a different route is just as good without losing functionality.

I'm glad I had a contribution of inspiration :)

Hell yeah! Great minds think alike! That's badass....are you going to get the topper for it too? I believe I've seen a couple other ECTO-1 themed GB Pins now....yours is the cleanest.

I can only hope that "custom" makes it into arcade community as prevalently as it has in the pinball community for years. It's always awesome seeing new and personalized stuff. :)

The GB pin was a huge inspiration for my GB cab, and now I'm currently doing more 80s car themed arcade cabs to "park" next to it. Haha. You never know what direction this hobby will go....which is why I love it.

Waiting for the reveal :)

Waiting for the reveal :)

Ahhhhh...the pressure!! ;)

Its gonna be until mid summer. Pretty much everything is made for both of my new ideas but I have to wait for the right temp/environment to paint the custom cabs.

Thanks brother!

And finally, as always...it has a 20" CRT for period authenticity.

At this point, I think authenticity is the least of your worries. ;)

Great project though, like the rest of your work. Id' be interested to hear more from Crafty about how he implemented the topper. Is it tied into the game code at all, or does it operate autonomously? (It must be triggered by something, even if it's just a microcontroller turning everything on periodically.)

80's Period authentic...as in from a design stand point, "What if this game existed BITD?"....which is pretty much been the road map for all my interpretive design work since Zelda....but then taken to my level of OCD. Haha. My goal has always been to make my cabinets feel immersive so that means insisting on using a CRT....which is inconvenient and often a challenge...I recently drove 200 miles round trip to source a CRT. Anyways, not doing so is non negotiable for me...and besides, we all know LCDs suck. :). My personal, and professional philosophy has always been that it's the cumulative of the small details that add up to create what I'm trying to achieve.

Anyways....As far as the custom electronics commission, i threw quite the challenge at Aaron because again, in trying to keep it "period authentic" I really, really wanted to use bulb type lighting on this project instead of LEDS. He basically coded and designed an operation system that time and programmed not only the lights, but also an audio clip for the siren. It operates independent of the game, and comes on as an attract mode on a timed interval. This is a skill beyond me.

I'm excited to start exploring this new area of my builds and to push these imaginative art concepts further and I'm fortunate that I've been able to commission some friends to help me bring these dreams to life....lots of talented people in this hobby! My next couple builds are going to incorporate quite a bit of custom electronics work in keeping with their themes, so I'm super excited about that. New challenges are what keep this hobby exciting for me...however, I'm not smart (or patient) enough to code....I'd rather pay the professionals and stick to the designing and building.

Your custom builds blow my mind. That topper my GOD! Can't wait to see what you do next man.

Thanks my man, I appreciate that. Keep up the awesome design work yourself....I will pick one or two up myself as soon as I can. May I suggest console game designs too? I know first hand the market is there. Good luck buddy!

Edit: I just saw your NES inspired work....I love it!

Been watching your work for awhile on BYOAC and here. Creativity and execution are off the charts. You gonna stick with the Nintendo profile going forward or are there other styles you are considering?

Thanks man. It's fun. Well, I did deviate slightly from the Nintendo profile with my Oregon Trail builds but I'm definitely in love with that cabinet profile....mostly because of my OCD and wanting all my cabinets to match. I considered modifying it for my current build in order to match the profile of the car I'm trying to emulate...but then decided against it as again, my OCD and wanting the row to be the same. I just love that design.

I did these wide, wide body SSMB cabinets for High Scores Arcade this last summer....so I am capable of doing something <slightly> different sometimes. Haha.
