I've been playing NBA Jam TE a ton recently with a buddy on my MAME cabinet. I put countless hours in on the genesis as a kid. My new goal was to find one as my next game.

On my way back from Vegas one got listed in great shape on eBay. It was a guy I had bought from before so I got ahold of him and scheduled pick up the next day.

While I was playing it at his place to test it the monitor got extremely fuzzy. Adjustment from the flyback wasn't doing much but we got it playable. I figured the flyback would hold out for a while.

I got it home, and down to the basement and the monitor was dead. It was the weekend so Bob wasn't going to be able to ship a rebuild kit until Monday which meant Wednesday delivery. Once it all came though the monitor fired right up and looked great with the new caps and flyback.

I had people over that night and we played for 8 hours straight. I'm not sure why I didn't get this game before. There's no better basketball game, and it's an amazing multiplayer game.

There's some weird goop on my coin counter, anyone know what it is, or why? I still need to take a magic eraser to the side art, especially where someone scribbled with a black marker. Other than that it's in fantastic shape.

For the coin counter goop, my guess would be one of 2 things. Either the coin counter was loose and that was the poor mans way of fixing it, or you had an operator who was convinced someone was stealing from him. Maybe he thought if you reversed the voltages you could "roll down" the meter. I don't know if thats true or not. But if he thought that someone could roll down the meter and take a percentage of his quarters, then in his mind he would encase the coin counter to prevent someone from doing that.

Looks like expanding insulating foam. Should be able to cut the bulk of it out with a razorblade, then use adhesive or paint remover to get the rest.

I played some regular NBA JAM back when it was a big deal. Lots of fun. Still have it for my SNES, but is not as much fun. Sure would like to have one someday but its a big cabinet.
