Just wanted to post some pictures of my new Galaga bezel USPS just dropped off:

It came in the standard "slide it inside a knocked down cardboard box taped on the edges with a couple sheet of bubble wrap tossed in" shipping container.

Well, there is now one less Galaga bezel in the universe.

PS: It was insured, but that won't replace it. :(

Holy shit Ken, that is EXACTLY how my Jungle King bezel arrived to me last week, right down to the packaging. I too paid for the insurance. Who was the seller?

You've lost a Galaga bezel, but gained an epic jig saw puzzle. Just kidding, though if you got that all back together with all the little cracks in the glass and lit it up that might be badass.. difficult.... but badass.

Sucks. I've seen a couple posts like this around here. Seems to be a common problem.

Someone needs to create a web page with "outside of box" and "inside of box" pictures, register a domain "HowNotToPackGlass.com" and then send it to these sellers and ask if they guarentee they will pack better *before* you buy the item.

I too lost a mint Baby Pac-man backglass due to lousy packing. In that case, the cardboard was actually 1" smaller than the bubblewrap/glass, with the edges sticking out all over. There was no chance of it surviving.

However other sellers who knew how to pack got me 2 Q*Berts and a Ms.Pac cocktail glass and numerous Atari/Taito glass marquees to me safely. In all cases they were not shipping like sideart -- they were shipped in 4"+ oversized boxes on all sides that were at least 5" thick as well, not 1".

How much did you pay for packing and shipping?

Just wondering because sellers often get blasted for packing charges and the common cry is usually, "When I ship, I recycle, blah blah blah and you can get boxes behind any store so WTF is this guy charging X for packing?"

On the other hand, if the seller didn't charge for packing, was it mentioned how it would be protected?

Not blaming the victim here but any glass shipping should entail a discussion of packing and if the seller doesn't mention it, the buyer should.

FWIW, I think styrofoam sheets do a great job protecting glass and you can buy a huge 4 x 8 foot sheet at Home Depot for under $10 bucks. Add some cardboard wrap over the styrofoam, lots of tape and it should get there fine.

Hey -- that looks just like the galaga bezel UPS dropped off for me a couple years back... it wasn't insured for enough to buy a repro from twobit, so I'm still SOL.

I have to buy a new Galaga bezel, who was the seller so i dont' make the same mistake?

Thanks and sorry about your troubles,

I currently have a glass Pole Position 2 marquee and Pole Position 2 bezel in the mail coming my way. I am REALLY hoping they don't arrive in similar condition.

For those who have asked, I am not going to out the seller unless this turns into an EBay/Paypal p*ssing match. I just sent notice to the seller this morning. Let's see how he responds.

I have had even more feebly wrapped bezels arrive intact, but that is no excuse for not doing a better job.

Mark, I will be in the same boat. Even if I get 100% of my money back + the shipping $, I still won't be able to touch a twobits repro. I have a vinyl peel and stick that I guess I am going to have to use for now over the original glass. I just have to scrape the little bit of paint still stuck to the glass.

I'm just bummed. I was hoping to finish the Galaga48 this weekend.....:(

Thanks to everybody for your kind words and great suggestions. I'll keep looking, there has to be another one out there.

The seller refunded my money and he has filed the insurance claim, so if he feels like identifying himself (I guess that leave Josie and GameGirl out) it is up to him. I consider the issue closed.

I think he knows that you have to pack for gorilla package handlers in the future. It was a hard lesson for both of us.
