My new addition

Nice! I saw that one and just don't have any space for a cocktail. The blue looks to be a monitor adjustment, but the experts will chime in with better advice! :)

Did you see the guys on CL with a huge list of games? I contacted him and he says hes got a place downtown on smithfield under aces breakaway arcade (which sucks).

deflection board or whatever they call it has a short in it. Mine does same thing.

The game works, you just have to open the top and click the coin op wire to rack up credits.
Normal

The coin op won't work with coins.
Probably converted to token mechs

The speaker doesn't work.
Disconnected or missing audio wire. Blown sound amp or PCB issue

The screen is kinda blue and has some lines in it, but it looks better in person than in these pictures.
You can try to adjust it out but without a doubt cap kit will be needed. Lines are called "jail bars"

yeah, cap the monitor and sound amp, and go from there. make sure all wiring is connected. you can always get a new coin mech fairly cheaply online.

Before i ask any really stupid questions, is there like a Cap Kit 101 thread anywhere?

here's one of dan's (p1899m). also view the one he has on discharging, too. the nice thing about the monitor in your cocktail is that there are 4 screws that hold it in. just unplug all the wiring from it, unscrew the screws, and the whole thing pulls right out, and is pretty light. makes it a little easier to work on.

On the neckboard, there are driver transistors for the three guns in the neck of the tube. There is one for each color Red, Blue and Green. The transistor for Blue may be shorted or there may be a short in the gun itself. If you try to adjust the pots on the neckboard and the intensity of the blue does not change, you have one of those two problems. You would have to remove the transistor and check it with a digital multimeter.

As for the rest of the problems, what has already been mentioned is good advice. Too bad there isn't an easy fix to make the cocktail version easier to play. The joysticks are at a really bad angle.

I don't have to discharge the monitor to do a cap, do I?

I really hope it's as easy as a simple adjustment, but I'll know for sure tonight.

Thanks to both of you for the info!

Other thing is, if you do a cap kit be really careful about the connectors on the sound board. They can be reversed. I did that once. It resulted in a condition I affectionately refer to as "Maximum Smoke". So, don't do that.

So to discharge it, you keep pulling it up with the screw driver until you don't hear the pop anymore?

And after you do the cap kit, how do you recharge it? if you even have to...

Make sure to watch p1899m's video on discharging. Also, I think arcaderepairtips.com has a decent vid on discharging a monitor. You can kill yourself otherwise- no joke. Here's a reference that lays out the basics too: http://www.alsarcade.com/capkit.htm

Make sure to discharge the monitor again for safety before hooking the chassis back up.

I did watch it. He didn't really say how you know it is fully discharged and how to put it back together.

I'm praying i can just adjust the pots or a knob because i don't feel to confident discharging it, haha.

YYEAAAHHHHH!!!! My first working game!!! Finally, haha.

So... as you can tell, i picked it up tonight. Looks great. Decals are faded but i am going to get the $20 repros and probably new glass as well.

First fix we did in five minutes of walking it through the door! The Coin Mech did not work simply because there were 4 tokens and a penny jammed in it. Removed them and presto! it coins up now, haha.

As for the monitor, it looks a shit ton better than it does in the pictures. Its not even blue, just bright. Adjusted the brightness knob but didn't do much - I'll post a video of it soon as well as a bunch of pics.

and the volume i didn't really mess around with too much. Adjusted the knob but still nothing. I'll look deeper tomorrow.
