So I had picked up an AFM and a RFM on the same day and played both quite a bit before leaving a week later for Florida. The day before I left, I got an offer I couldn't refuse for my AFM so I took it.

I had planned on selling the RFM when I returned home, mainly because I felt it repeated too much- Since I've been home, I haven't been able to stop playing it! I finally got to ''attack mars'' it was all great. I don't find the modes feeling repetitive anymore, but more of a challenge to see how far you can get-Keeping multiball in play, martian attack and hypno beam is what will keep you coming back for more, the game is a pure masterpiece.

AFM, is a fine game, but I could not justify the price. I honestly feel that RFM is the better game and costs half what a beat AFM does. If you have not played one, play one! I felt I owed it a bit more after watching tilt and I'm thrilled to have mine. Definitely an underrated game.

P.S- Anyone use LED's in RFM? Is it overkill or too blinding?

Thanks, James

Congrats on the new machine.

I have only played a couple games on RFM. I really wanted to like it, but it just didn't do it for me. I hope, like you, that I can play it a bit more and enjoy it enough to justify buying one.

Enjoy.

same thing here, years and years ago I had played a few routed ones and they played like neglected garbage- so I really disliked the game. After watching tilt I went back for more and really dug it. I haven't been able to stop playing since I really started playing it out.

They did an amazing job cramming in so many things and the smoothness of the gameplay is among the best there is imo. I've had a ton of different pinballs over the years and this one is slowly creeping to my top 5 (it's sitting next to a TSPP and LOTR which have been getting jealous)

I dunno, I've played several RFMs over the years (mostly in home collections and well-maintained). I tried to like this game, and ultimately find the playfield and layout very boring. I don't like shooting into the 'hidden' upper pf, with the predictable ball movement. The visuals don't make it for me either. I'd take a 'beater' working AFM over a clean/pretty RFM any day. But everyone has their opinion! This is just mine.

I'm still trying to figure out just what it is about AFM that makes people go nuts. The playfield art design is ripped straight from Demolition man or T2, gameplay wise, it's fun but has SDTM drains from the center wall which is a design flaw. The only feature that made me go goo goo over was the strobe mode but not sure that's worth 4 to 6 grand :)

I like AFM...ALOT. I will probably never own one because of the price. I think it has great flow, and I am pretty good at it (at least I used to be).

I own an RFM, and play it almost every day. It gets played more then any other games I have. I really enjoy the machine, and for under $3K I got a sweet home use only machine that I can convert to another machine in 10 minutes. Do THAT with your AFM, LOL.

I am in the minority (at least on the forums) and actually like Star Wars Episode 1. Even thought I dont typically like "licensed" games, but I think they did a nice job with it. Sure, there's alot of "jar jar" in it, but there was in the movie too, so whatever.

What baffles me about RFM is the sheer genius in the platform. Like it or not, you have to respect the work the designers did in making this happen. there are SO many great ideas in this platform.

Enjoy your RFM :). It is one that should never leave my collection.

And who knows.....maybe some day there will be another kit we can use in it.

I own both an AFM and a RFM. The RFM has a draw to it for the non-hardcore pinball players. My RFM hardly ever gets played now. The game video animations get old.

loves me some RFM. my deal for one fell through........dammit.

have an opportunity at some point in the future for a SWE1.......might have to snag that one just to get me a p2k pin.

Good to hear you are enjoying the game. I had one once, and if it proved anything it proved there are two kinds of people in this world - those that really like RFM and those that dont.

I fell into the dont crowd. I felt it was too reptitive, the software felt mashed, none of the shots did it for me, etc.

Its one of those games where half of the people i know like and the other half cant stand Its pretty amazing.

I would not put LEDs in RFM. Yes, installing LEDs will cause the game to think any spot where an LED is the bulb is burnt out, but the real problem is RFM dims some bulbs most of the time during game play. The lamp matrix is pulsing very fast to dim the bulbs, which looks good with standard filament bulbs, but LEDs flicker...a lot!

Yes, you can increase the intensity of the lamps in game play(under the power saver adjustment), but most of the bulbs near the back will still flicker throughout most of the game. If you think the LED strobing on a normal game is distracting, that's nothing compared to RFM's strobing.
