Bought this thing at a local action sight unseen for $60 and took a chance on it. When I got to the place they said it would turn on but not work and it also had no games. Well I took it home and started blowing the dust out of it and came upon 4 carts tucked in the back Shock Troopers, Samurai Showdown 3, Aero Fighters 3, and Prehistoric Isle 2 (this was a huge bonus for me). After cleaning a little I took it inside and plugged it in....turned it on.....and the screen came to a crazy green screen. I let it sit for a while and the thing was up and running. Screen was crisp and clear and everything worked. Anyhow, I tore it apart, fixed it up and made a home for it in my game room.

Carts

Well, they didn't have the keys and couldn't look it over. I also got a 3 Wonders or Wonder 3 (whatever) at the same place two weeks before I got the Geo for 40 buck and it works perfect. They didn't even plug that one in.

The Joystick

I was going to move the joystick....I told myself "move the joystick"......I got everything done and guess what I forgot to do?

Man you got a great deal. Those are some pretty good carts you found.

those joysticks also look awfully low.

The joysticks do look a bit low. You might want to make sure that the spacer is below the knob handle and not under the actuator. You put the spacer under the actuator on metal control panels but on the shaft below the knob for wooden CP's.

You can also use a router to cut out a 1/4" recess for the joyctick base to go into through the bottom of the CP.

I know this is a tough crowd. Then again if you are going to submit pictures for feedback, you'll get the Bad with the good.

NICE work overall. I couldn't say that I'd do the same with the $60 cab. A MVS in a Joust body still seems a bit wrong to me. MVS will make for good replay value for the family although. Much more than old williams games.

Please redo your Control panel. They actually did try hard with your conversion and even put in the credit readers for both sides. It should really look as close as you can get to this. Only the right stick is in a correct position. The right buttons are even flipped. The A is always in a lower position.

I put lexan on mine after I put on a reprint CPO.

With that Cab, personally I would just patch and fill all of the holes to redo the CP. Sell the MVS board and all 4 carts for about $150 and gotten myself a JROK which is what I generally feel belongs in that type of cab. It's alot more work but I would restore it for a JROK Williams cab.

You totally have the skills to do it. It's just more money... but then it becomes a total classic. It's already JAMMA so you're 1/2 way there.

I also don't get the "Kids play with consoles". I mean...really? It's your cab and all but I mean, it's all just video games and the MVS is really nothing more than a GIANT Neo Geo AES console (with different bios and cartridge but the same rom chips...).

besides that, the ridiculous control panel layout and stuff it looks good

Console

The "Kids play with consoles" thing was a joke. I told the kids that this was our idea of video games. About the controls, I bought it like that and wanted something to play with. I know the controls need turned around but after putting $50 into an overlay, I think it will be a couple months before I do it again. I do like all the feedback and I don't take offense to any of it.

Where did you get your overlay? I got mine from arcade overlays and it looks pretty good for only about 30ish before shipping.

You should adjust the joysticks still, like someone said the e-clip isn't on correctly. they're really low.

Some of these people would slit their throats if they saw what I was converting right now :)

Rob, you took a game that was already converted and made it look nicer. I love Joust and always like to see something changed "back". But I just did the same thing you have, I bought a horrible Joust conversion and went to a Multi-Williams. Mostly Joust, but definitely not original. If the game fits the need you have, then it's perfect, doesn't matter what everyone else says. Enjoy the discussion, but in the end, it's your game in your home.

If you do redo the panel again and need new metal, let me know and we can work a deal on some I have extra.

Control

Im not sure how to adjust the controls. Does anyone know of a diagram I could look at? Also, when I do change things around can somebody recommend a decent stick for a good price? Mine are a little worn out.
