I started this thread early to keep me motivated. Also to prove dj dns wrong, since he told me I would never get to it when he was here last time ;)

I'm starting with a beat-up, converted Joust cab:

But there's no water damage, so that's a good sign.

Yesterday, I stripped the cab, vaccuumed it and gave it a bleach water wipe down inside.

More to come when I return from vacation at Disney... hopefully...

So to quote Mike (Malice95) from his Berzerk restore thread- I ignored my kids for 45 minutes :) and did some work on my Joust cab. I wish I remembered to take more pics, but alas, here's what I accomplished over the weekend.

I began sanding down the sides, all the swelled spots and bad edges and then applied bondo. The front corners were pretty mangled and I needed to do one more bondo treatment on this side after my second pic:

Once I touched up my bondo job, I sanded it again with 100 grit and then with 220 and rolled one coat of primer:

Next up, I'll sand and bondo the front and back then prime. Then time to sand the primer, re-prime and then hopefully top coat!

That bar going across the back, do all Williams have that? I think my junked out Stargate is missing that piece. Anyone have any Stargate pics of the back open?

I think they do. There is a top door (which I'm missing) and a bottom door on hinges.

I just checked my Stargate carcass and I see what looks like remnants of a support beam on each side. I'll try to find some pics for confirmation. Think it's heald in place by 3 nails.

OK, I finished priming and sanding the cab. I'll be foam rolling the cabinet color next weekend. I've seen a bunch of restores with stencils, but I'm soliciting opinions on what everyone feels is better:

- roll on the colors for the stencils or
- use rattle cans for the colors???

Most restorations I have seen with Stencils use
rattle cans when possible.

I'm going rattle can on my berzerk but the colors I got
are a really close match to the originals.

Good question. I was wondering if I should invest in a spray gun (whatever it's called) for my Stargate restore. I guess I should roll on or spray to save money.

Either way you apply the base coat just remember it needs to be smooth or else the stencils won't stay down as well leading to bleed through at the edges.
Use rattle can or a spray gun for the stencil painting and apply in light coats.

Lol, I can relate to that. Luckily I can't hear my kids yelling over the noise of the palm sander. ;)

I'd use rattle cans for the colors if possible - as long as your base coat paint is also oil-based and assuming you can find a close color match in rattle cans. Rolling can yield very good results too, but requires a little more effort to make sure it goes on smooth and even, in order to avoid roller lines and texture/orange peel.

Got a bit further yesterday after a long weekend out of town. I rolled on some Rustoleum semi-gloss black oil-based paint to the sides, since I'm doing the Joust 2 coloration. I'll need to sand and apply one more coat, but it looks good already. I've got the stencils from pr0k and will try my hand at stenciling soon...

Phhheh.. We all move at our own pace. It'll probably take me a month
to get started on my Galaxian restore if thats any consulation:)

You're restoring one right now correct?

Nope, no Galaxian for me. I have a Time Pilot in a holding pattern until the side art repro is finished and a Heavy Barrel custom restore in waiting.
