with the addition of the bezel yesterday, i have proclaimed this to be completed. started out as a sinistar cab converted to willow, which i got gutted with all the stuff gone aside from a limited amount of wiring harness. i pulled that all out, and initially wire it up jamma and threw a g07 in there so i could play some jamma boards.

well, as i love williams games, it was chewing away at me to get a jrok board to multi this, so i finally did. sold my space invaders to finance the jrok board as well as the marquee and cpo. then, i spent monday thru wednesday of last week sanding, painting, and installing all the parts. capped the monitor, repainted the coin door and coin vault door, and installed bob robert's jamma harness with all it's pretty molex connections so i can take shit apart as needed... and it looks nice, to boot. finally, with the addition of the bezel last night, i can say this is completed.

without a doubt, the hardest thing about the multi williams build is building it on the narrow style williams cab (sinistar, bubbles.) so, if this helps anyone, here's what i did. through arcadeoverlays.com, i got their multi williams marquee art and cpo, and had them resized to 22 7/8", which is the width of the stuff on the smaller cabs. i did the same with the bezel art, which i sent in to them to have printed.

also, control panel wise, i didn't want to drop the $75 on a new metal panel so i ended up bondoing and redrilling holes for the new layout. i took off the 1/8 or so thick metal top piece, and sanded down the curve to flatten it out, as it left a lip on the front edge of wood.

but, i want to let anyone with the narrower cab know, it is easy to multi williams it artwise, you just have a lot more hoops to jump through to make everything come together. but it can be done.

so, here are two pics, the before, and after. i didn't document the entire build, but i took the important pics. and i've been playing a shitload of robotron.

oh. forgot - for the CP layout, i used microswitch buttons and two wico 8-way leaf joysticks. not really a fan of microswitches but they work pretty well, were readily available in the colors i needed, and i can't really here the clicking through the wooden CP with the volume cranked up anyways.

Sweet, it looks like it turned out great! Did you leave the Sinistar sideart on it? That sideart looks sweet, and I don't really ever see them, so that is a sweet one for sure. I had not thought of the width issue. I have a MW in a Joust machine, but may be building another in a former Bubbles cab, so that is good to know. I may circle back if I move forward with that one. Restoring a Bubbles would be difficult and quite costly I imagine, so I may JROK it as has already been converted and hacked prior to me acquiring it.

Nice job on the MW, and I am with you, Robotron gets a ton of play on mine as well!

...

awwww.

looks like a nice Sinistar cab.
You should have offered it to me in trade Cleverly. I have a robotron cab I could have traded (and still do).

Jon

sorry jon, if i knew that i would've. damn. a robotron cab would definitely make a 2 player joust game less of a 'get a room you two' experience...

RE:Wiz- actually sanded down the cab, bondoed it to smooth down everything, and rolled two coats of rustoleum oil based black on there. eventually gonna go with rikitiki's multi williams side art when i can afford it.

You covered the Sinistar side art? *sigh*

Are you referring to the Williams Multigame itself?

if that's what you're referring to, no way. i love it. i've been playing mostly robotron, but also splat, joust (chrissy's fave game), sinistar, and bubbles. although, not much joust, cause apparently when i get a real high score on a game chrissy loves, that ruins the game for her. which is why she stopped playing her ice cold beer when i flipped the game three times.

splat is real addicting, and hard, imho. i never played it before seeing it on the jrok board, and always thought it was an insect based game cause of the name...

what do you mean by that, andy?
I mean that the controls are just enough off from the originals to make it suck enough that I have only played ~10 games total on it since getting it done... which took almost 2 years. Now if I can just get Robo Jon to sell his Stargate cabaret.

Please tell me you're joking.... :004_scry:

No shit, the coolest thing about the cabinet and he paints over it like an op. I just don't understand some people's thought processes any more. That Sinistar side art was the nicest un-restored stencil I've ever seen. What a shame.

You're doing it wrong then...

Robotron... dead on.

Joust.... dead on.

Bubbles... dead on.

I don't play much Defender or Stargate so perhaps THOSE are the games you refer to?

Bubbles... dead on.

Actually, not dead on. Bubbles used an opto stick, and it was centered in the middle of the CP. I played Sav's MW, and Bubbles felt strange playing with the joystick on the left side.

Just sayin.

Well, the only Bubble I ever played used a wico stick (I'm sure the opto died by the time I got to it)... and you gotta be REAL anal to be put off by a stick being a little to the left.
