My Ms. Pac-Man Restoration (WIP)

The completed coin door, I'm real happy with it. I'd still like to get repro 25 cent inserts, but it's not a big deal. Lovin the ms. pac keychain from OldTymeToys.

I approve of this! Nice job!!!

Stencils arrived earlier this week, so I'll probably work on that this weekend. Need to go pickup the paint. The machine also has one of shilmover's multipac kits, and i have a HSSK to install as well. Can't wait to get this finished!

This looks great so far, nice job! What paint did you end up using on the coin door? It has a nice fine texture to it, looks really good. Are you going to replace the marquee? It would be a shame to have such a nice looking restored Ms. Pac with a faded marquee. :)

I used rustoleum textured paint, and was pretty happy with how it came out. I forgot to mention that I replaced the marquee a few weeks back when I ordered new sideart for my galaga (my next project).

Good luck with your stenciling process. My Ms Pac resto is going to be on hold for a while, probably until next Spring, due to sudden health issues. I'll live vicariously through your work and get some good inspiration and mojo for mine. :)

first stencil applied to the kickplate! Gonna do the sides tomorrow, ran out of time tonight for them. Hopefully get the yellow on tomorrow night. Any suggestions on how long to wait after the yellow is on before doing the next color? Wouldn't wanna risk pulling up paint when I remove the stencils. I'm using glidden interior latex paint, if that makes a difference.

LOOKS AWESOME! Nothing better than a freshly stenciled machine!!! Can't wait to see how it turns out!

whew, not as much progress tonight as I'd planned for. Got a late start to getting on the side stencils, and took a bit longer than i expected. Everything is all taped off now and ready for paint. Gonna get an early start tomorrow and get that yellow on.

Crappy camera phone pic, but here's the yellow on the kick plate. I ended up putting the paint on a bit heavy, because it wasn't covering well. I have a few areas that peeled when removing the stencil, but nothing that can't be touched up by hand later.

Working on the left side now, I did extra coats of primer to help the yellow cover, so it should come out much better with less coats of yellow paint. Pics to follow later!

Left side and front are painted yellow, right side will have to wait until tomorrow. Still had a few issues of paint pulling off, think I waited a bit too long to remove this time and it had dried too much.

Here are more pics....

From what I've read on other people's stencil attempts, the yellow stencil can be a headache. I read a suggestion of trying a quick coat of primer and then the yellow to make it easier for the yellow to cover the blue and maybe not stick to the cab as much. Removing while the paint is still tacky is supposed to help too. Looking good so far!

Got the right side painted yellow this morning. Went much better, with the lessons learned from yesterday. Sprayed from a few inches farther away, to get lighter coats. Didn't wait as long to pull off the stencil, and I had zero paint pull up this time. Some adhesive was left behind on the cab, but it should wipe off easy.

Can't wait to get the pink on there now, but probably not gonna get to it until next weekend. That should give the yellow plenty of time to set, my worry is that the adhesive of the pink stencil will pull the yellow off.

The weekend is here... can't wait for an update...

just got the pink stencil on the kickplate, but gonna have to wait till morning to get on the side stencils. hopefully get the pink on tomorrow afternoon/evening. Not sure when i'll get to the black though, i'm headed outta town thursday morning and won't be back until tuesday....so gonna be a bit before it's done.
