-----> my monitor makes a hissing noise <------

25 or 27" kortek monitor makes hissing noise. first off sometimes the monitor is nice and bright, sometimes its kinda bright, and sometimes its dark. I can hear a hissing noise comming from near the flyback, but not sure if its the flyback or a cap about to blow???, now when i turn up the H-hold on the remote board the hissing gets super loud and changes to a higher pitch. now when i turn any other dial on the board it does not change the noise. . any ideas . . . . . I just got the machine so thats all i know about it. . at the moment. . .

only thing i can see in the dark is the glow from the neck, could a bad cap make that noise???

You could have HV leaking from under the anode cap. This mainly occurs due to 4 reasons. I've seen all of these one time or another.

1) Anode clip not in all the way (both sides not holding)
2) Damage to the protective silicone cap
3) Dirty tube adjacent to and under the cap
4) A clean tube there but cleaned with something leaving residue. Use plain water or alcohol and not household cleaners that can leave remants.

Or, it is simply a separated core in the flyback, and the toothpick trick can often help.

Use a old paper towell cardboard center spool and hold it up to your ear and point it towards the anode, towards the flyback and other areas and see if you can pinpoint the area it's coming from.

I've heard hissing from the power supply section on a U5000 thanks to a bad cap. If you dont see any high voltage leaking then you may just have a bad cap somewhere.
