My Missile Command has no sound

Another classic back in action saving cities from annihilation.

Bumping this thread....my Dad's Missile Command took a dump this week.

No power whatsoever. I need to get over there and begin diagnosing power concerns.

I'll be toting a spare ARII board in-hand.... :D

*stay tuned*

Dusty connector on the power brick. Unplugged it and plugged it back in and we're good to go.

Also, to note....I just picked up a multi-kit for this game today. I'll be giving it to my dad either for Father's Day or his birthday. He's been writing his high score on the marquee in grease pencil so far :p

Welp...we're back to no sound again. Actually, we're back to 'dead.'

My dad called me recently said his Missile Command game wasn't turning on properly.

I pulled the power supply and tested it in my Star Wars cab - no problems.

Pulled his game board, and was a bit surprised to find a cracked IC on the multi-kit daughterboard. It's the one next to the screenprinted '@2005.' It's a 20 pin IC. The chip has a crack right through it, and a piece missing. Obviously a catastrophic failure. What could have caused that?

Can the chip be replaced?

I've contacted Braze for help...

Here's a pic of the damage. Oops. This folks, is why you should have your games plugged into a surge protector.

Scott told me that he can fix it, as long as the board's not been damaged.

I swapped in the original eproms, and the game seems to be playing OK. So off to Scott with the kit :D

Hey I know old thread, sorry, but I have a sound issue on my Missle Command after moving it to the basement. Cant seem to figure it out, so here is what I know: (lol, not much)

1. ARII seems to be fine
2. Checked wiring and connectors for speakers, all ok
3. Test says pokey OK
4. Changed the edge connectors for two speaker wires

NOTE: while the game is on, I pull the edge connector off, and then put it back on, and the pictures goes all wacky, but I get the sound back. STRANGE.

Then, if I power off and on, and the picture comes back good, but then, the sound disappears again.

I repeated this a number of times with the same outcome. So we know the sound can work, but some reason is not working with a normal working picture.

HELP...............

Really not a good idea to remove the edge connector while the game is on...that could do more damage.

Thanks for the tip. I know it was bad, but if I didnt do it, I would never know if the speakers were actually working.

So any clue what is the problem?

What have you done to verify the operation of the game?

Have you checked voltages to the board? Particularly the +12 and -5v needed for the audio output circuitry on the game board?

Have you rebuilt the AR board in the game? They are notorious for cracked solder joints and burned connections.

Operation of the game is flawless. Everything except the sound.

I have not check the voltages to the board, that I will do tonight, thanks for that.

Last night I re-flowed all the solder joints but did not do a full re-build, and there is no trace of any burned connections. The AR board looks brand spankin new, and so does the pcb.

Lets see what the voltages read tonight.

Did you replace the edge connector? The contacts get loose from heat/time... On my MC Cabaret I had low sound, turned out the TDA2002s on the ARII were on their way out.
