So you may have seen my post about the Gaplus in great shape I just recently picked up, but it had a destroyed marquee.

Well I was able to get a scan of a Gaplus Marquee, but it was not square, and had flaws, smudged, and the colors were off. After spending a good amount rebuilding most the artwork I was able to print it off a large format Epson printer at work.

It took 3 prints to get it perfect, the first the ink levels were not right for the plasticized paper, and the second was smudged when the printer cut the paper and it fell in the basket before the ink dried. The final print I set the printer not to cut the ink and it was perfect. I found that even after a day the ink would still smudge, so I decided to take one of the imperfect prints and paint it with Krylon Triple Thick clear coat. I didn't know if it would cause the ink to bleed, but fortunately it didn't.

Here is one of imperfect prints installed:

You can see the imperfection here:

There is a little black smudge in the Midway logo:

Here is the final perfect one, which I have yet to install (waiting for the paint to cure a few days first:

I created the new Marquee image using Gimp, PaintShop Pro 12, and Photoshop CS3.

Here is link to download the marquee. It is a PDF zipped into a 7zip self extracting zip. I zipped it because the image is of very high quality and is large.

Edit: fixed link
Download 15 MB

When you print this, keep the size, there is extra black, you trim it off to fit it to your glass. The image is in CMYK colors too.

Wow, looks nice! I may need to get one of those made just in case the same thing ever happens to mine. It's funny, those close up shots with the cracked t-molding is exactly how the t-molding looks on my cab too :D

Yes that is the next thing to fix, I wonder if any Gaplus has original uncracked t-molding. That Krylon triple thick it good stuff, I will have an extra marquee if someone needs one, it only has a slight imperfection in it. Just send me a IM.

Looks nice!

Are you printing on clear film? White film?

Are you placing the printed film behind the glass on your marqee? Taping it to the glass so it does not bend?

That is on coated paper, not film at all. It is behind the original glass, no tape because except a tiny bit on the end because the paper is pretty thick.
