Today is not a good day. I overslept, was nearly late to work. Entire house has the flu (thank god we had flu shots..not nearly as bad this time.). Spent 5 hours working on Stargate last night and didn't get to sleep until nearly 4 AM...

And then, just to make sure the cake gets the icing, I find out today one of the local pinball bigwigs bought the only LOTR I know of available for public play in D/FW from the arcade owner. Apparently they're replacing it with a NIB Avatar, and this is something I'm supposed to be excited about. So I lose access to my favorite pin of all time, and get access to something that by all accounts is an extremely mediocre game. HOORAY.

I think I'm going to vomit. I think this may solidify the fact that after I get Stargate fixed up I am going to sell it and use the money to try and find a LOTR. :(

So it was the one from Nickelrama? Dang it!!!!!! I loved that game, guess it is time to start saving for me as well then.

Yep. Hassel(hoff? lol..) got his mitts on it. Lucky SOB..pays to have connections and money ready to go at the right time. Regardless of how often it may have broken down at NR, I don't think that game has any major issues or wear aside from the plastics on the left side being busted up. Will be real easy for him to fix up and get working 100% I bet. :|

I know I'm the oddball, but that's an upgrade in my opinion. LOTR is meh (to me and me only I know), Avatar is pretty darn cool! Possibly the best pop bumper sounds in all of pinball. Is it an LE? If so, even better.

Hope your day gets better and the flu leaves you guys alone quick!

Play it! It's fucking fun! Make sure they turn the sound up...great sound and music add a lot to the game.

Yep, play it and THEN form an opinion.. Don't let the goofy stuff here tell you what games are good or not or you'll be missing out on 98% of pinball!

Unfortunately at that location, Nickelrama, they keep the volume low on their pins. When playing Tron Legacy I can barely hear the awesome Daft Punk soundtrack. :(

Yeah. It wont be loud more likely than not. I'll give it a shot, just like any pin I've never played, but frankly I will really be shocked if I find it is enough of a draw for me to take the time to drive over there regularly.

I have a built in discrimination towards the LOTR theme. I've alwaus been a fan, I loved the movies, and my wife and I are both lifetime subscription holders for the LOTR MMO, even if we dont find a lot of time to actually play it.

Most of the guys on the forum here brag about stuff being "rescued" from being on route= P

Probably would if it was like a 7-11 or something, not a place where you go in for 3$ and pay .15/game for pinball. :p

It had the usual flipper wear but it was still in good shape. This hobby is all about being ready, I don't have a truck or the connections that others have so I usually miss out. Honestly, I have played Avatar and wasn't impressed, to me the LOTR was the best pin there and that includes the new AC/DC one.If you are up to a drive or are in the area sometime check out Pinballz arcade in Austin, he has the Lotr there and just about every one of the top 100 there. Worth the trip to check it out.

I sold my Pinbot and Galaga cocktail to Darren at TPF. Heard a lot of mixed things about him but he was pretty easy to deal with and not picky at all about the machines. He did not even want to plug them in first!

So if you see a Pinbot thats ledded out and has red and blue flippers, blur nylon nuts, and cliffy colored post sleeves at Pinballz, or a galaga cocktail with an amazingly crisp monitor, they were mine. :)

I ain't driving down there for LOTR.

Ugh, Avatar sucks. Beats my ass every time. Hate it.

LOL...sounds like YOU suck!

Avatar has actually made me a better player. Really keeps you on your toes and forces you to nudge & make crazy flipper-tip saves. Always pay attention to the inlane "Bond" inserts...you control those and get a character hurry-up when you get all 3 lit. Same with the RDA top lanes - get those lit, light the multiplier.

There are some stacking strategies. For instance - you can stack Bomber Battle & Banshee...and if you light NAVI and SEEDS before you start those modes ...if you start SEEDS first, you can also start NAVI to have them all run simultaneously (Starting NAVI first disables SEEDS). If you hit EYWA captive ball it will double the time for any modes running. You can stack both AMP and LINK Multiball....and if you do that with the other stuff running you can have EVERYTHING stacked at once! Sounds easy, but it's tough to do...and very satisfying.

Avatar is fucking gay.

Never played the pin. Just the movie and theme.

This is why I hate these licensed theme pins. If I hate the license, I couldn't care less about the game. :-(

Translation: Hey, I own one. STFU.

Sorry, had to lol. :)

I've seen Avatar many times, and it's one of the most hetero movies I've ever seen. Romantic love story, hetero alien sex, big robots, monsters, shit blowing up...I could pump one off to it. ;)
