Well after a very stressful adventure starting off with contact via my VAPS listing for a wanted BMX pinball it is finally here.

I was contacted by a newly registered user via PM and e-mail that he had a BMX pinball that had been in his dad's attic since about 1985. Story went that his dad picked it up from a local establishment and after a year or so his mom got annoyed with all the loud noises and made him put it in the attic. It had been there ever since. Put away working.

Sounded kinda fishy especially since he had zero posts and still does to this day. A very careful progression of events including video's and a weak attemp on my part to find someone local to go check it out (didn't happen) and we proceeded with the transaction. I can honestly say he appeared through our correspondances to be as nervous as I was but not knowing if this was real or not had to weigh my options. I understood the financial risk and the seller was willing to work on payment terms that included things like final payment on confirmation of pick-up by the shipper.

So after a bit of stress it is here.

More Pic's..........

Most immediate need is a backbox key to get the backbox open. It rather not drill until I have explored all other options.

I then need some legs which I believe are available repro and a lockdown bar which I have not been able to figure out what I need and if it's available anywhere. I also need the hinge brackets that mount to the bottom of the backbox.

wow, i cannot believe you got it. congrats! (*shakes with rage at you on the inside*)

i just assumed it was a scam or nutjob as he contacted me too, i expressed extreme interest and never heard a peep again.

It's one of those situations that your not sure what to make of it. Just be careful and manage the risk. I certainly could have been burned on it but made sure that not matter what happened the amount I could have been burned by was not more than I was willing to risk.

Here's some pic's after all the work. I stopped short of having the playfield restored due to funds but I think it turned out great. It is fully functional now. Now to start playing it a bunch to see what bugs crop up.

Some more Pic's. Still have a little polish on the coin door, t-molding and to seal the backglass. Also need a little more touch up on the cabinet paint.

Awesome find! I like these early pins. Now you need MotorDome and Banzai Run...

Very cool! Nice job with the shop out.

I actually played a BMX ON LOCATION a few years back at an old school arcade in Colorado Springs. I was shocked to see it there being that it's a fairly rare title. I like the theme, makes me nostalgic :)

I have to say after playing it for the last few days, it's kind fun. The outlane flaps make it really interesting and keep you on your toes. To think the person that had it before me had that entire system non functional and the outlane flaps physically blocked closed so every ball that went in the outlane just drained back to the flippers.

Seems I still have a couple bugs to work out but I'd say it works 90% at this point. Looks like the new t-molding is sitting at the front door of the house so I'll be able to get that on soon.

I hope it is still there. I am going to back in the Highlands Ranch area at Christmas and was thinking of hitting that place one day.

Nice pickup!

Glad you got a game you wanted :)

You know, it's funny how you toss those "WTB" ads out there, then out of the blue someone calls you. That is how I got my second Black Knight 2000. A guy went looking on Google because he wanted to get rid of this machine because he was moving. He pulled an old RGP post of mine and because I was local, e-mailed me out of the blue.

Was a great transaction, and I would never have known about him had I never placed that ad (which was from 2006!!)

So just an interesting follow up, the guy that sold BMX to me contacted me in the summer this year and told me that he found the original lock down bar and legs and asked if I wanted them. I said yes of course and now have them. I had told him when I bought the game that if he ever found them to give me a call. Well, he did, 2 years later.

I guess it just goes to show you that some things will turn out for the better.

cool story thanks for posting the follow-up. Game looks great too.

I'm on the hunt for one of these now myself... Cool pickup and neat that you were contacted a couple years later about the missing parts!
