My latest pick up...Star Wars and Space Duel (with a twist)

So my fist pickup of 2011 (several weeks ago) was a Star Wars and a Space Duel. Both of these games are in decent shape, but are both projects since they are both missing some parts.

The Star Wars is in nice shape. It does have the original Amplifone in in, but is missing the HV board (got one) and the power brick (still looking for one). Looking forward to getting this one going.

The Space Duel is in decent shape as well. It is missing all of the green buttons and the power brick (I just picked one up). Clean sides and front. Can anyone spy what is unique about it??? :)

Cheers to my fellow 2011 Star Wars purchaser, it's good to find one of these. I thought I'd be waiting 5-10 years to score one, then one literally falls in my lap that's a 10 minute drive away. Weird how the world works when you're not hunting for one, lol.

Yours looks to be in damn nice condition also. Nice :D

I was expecting the twist to be something like, "but the Star Wars was converted to Space Duel and the Space Duel was converted to Star Wars!". :p

Nice pick up though. :)

That would be a better twist!

The twist is the Amp in the Space Duel. I don't believe it is that common, but I could be wrong. It also has a tag on it that is interesting, "Atari asset number ...." as well as an Atari salesmen business card taped inside. Kinda interesting.

thats the same asset tag on my missile command I posted about a few months ago.. Although my missile command did not have a serial number on it. I got it from a guy who did contract work for atari and they gave him the game. It either has something to do with early units that went to stuff like amoa shows or it has something to do with the atari arcades they ran.

The guy was not a salesman. His title is manager electrical engineering. Quick search says Morgan Hoff was lead designer to battlezone. Project leader on tempest. Probably a few other games. His card is in there either because the game either belonged to him, or they wanted to put contact info inside in case the monitor failed. Either way, killer score!

amp space duel is pretty rare. I have only seen one of them before.. I have seen the amp in another game. Not sure if it was black widow or gravitar. Maybe tempest..

I am guessing (at least for mine) that it is the latter (shows or atari arcade) just because of the serial number 09893. I am guessing that is not low, but I don't know where the numbers started. Yeah that Atari asset tag is intriguing. I wonder what this games story is...I love the business card, just wish the pen marker wasn't on it

Thanks Bill!

So how common is it to have an amplifone in a Space Duel as a factory installed monitor? I know that amps occasionally were put in gravitar's, just wondering how often this is found.

My Space Duel (s/n 1414) has a deeper shelf to accommodate the WG6100 display frame. The frame includes the high voltage and deflector PCBs. It looks like yours only needs a shallow shelf for the Amplifone itself and the boards are mounted on the side of the cab. Sweet find.

As great as the Star Wars find is, I think I find the Space Duel more exciting, with the Amp and the documentation. Congrats!
