I've been lurking around a bit since mid summer when I picked up my first Upright off a local CL ad. Too close and priced right - just couldn't say "no" It was a Space Duel....

Turns out I have a thing for VECTOR Games and from what little I've learned in past couple months that's a bad thing for a guy like me who can't fix these things myself. Ughhh

Space Duel cab wasn't as minty as my taste desired and was traded for a Super Nice fully working Centipede.

Found a super clean Asteroids Deluxe that I went and grabbed on my first game grabbing road trip. It needs a tune up as it sometimes has lines that follow the planets around, or shuts down. Beep code tells me Ram chip M10

Next came a nice very original DK that has been working perfect since it arrived - knock on wood.

Wife and daughter are away on holiday girls weekend right now so yesterday I borrowed neighbors pickup and scored a pretty nice looking RUSH San Francisco
Steering is not great, coin slots don't work, monitor needs a tune up, brakes appear stuck on as you always hear the squeal and see rubber down
Wait till she sees my latest - and learns I'm looking for a twin to it asap

I NEED HELP (in more ways than one according to my wife) - looking for a tech who can service my games here at my home. Must be good with VECTORs, maybe I need two techs?

Looking for TEMPEST, Star Castle, Lunar Lander, Ms Pac
Have a collection of Neon Signs I am willing to part with

What the hell did I get into....

Welcome gumbo, we don't judge people here. It's ok to love these machines at Klov :)

Have you watched any of Tim's YouTube videos, arcaderepairtips.com

Vectors rule! I am a bit too far to come to your house but if you need any vector PCBs repaired that's what I do. Clean the edge connector and then check the voltage getting to your Asteroids Deluxe PCB.

Welcome to the club. Good luck with the wife when she gets back. I have an Xmen 4p sitting in our shed that she doesn't know about....waiting for the right time to tell her lol.

Let me know how that goes because I have something similar brewing in my shop. My wife does not go out there very often, but it seems like any time I pick up another game, she can smell it on me, and ends up coming in there and asking a lot of questions. Gumbo, welcome buddy, think of this hobby as a heroin addiction. You cannot get enough so you keep uping your dosage. San Francisco Rush is badass, nice work sir.

Trust me ...the addiction can get "out of hand" as my gf puts it. It wouldnt matter so much to me if she wasn't so close to being wifey :p . It's a little easier since she doesn't own half my stuff yet but I just took her out for a nice dinner etc then when she was all happy I just pretended to be all open and mentioned How happy I was that I found somebody that can support my hopes and dreams blah blah. Then I just happened to add in how I would love for her to be part of my hobby because I love spending time with her and it's something I love to do :D be sure to part with a game or two between your buying so she doesnt get the hoarding feeling and it's all good. Oh and whatever you do don't put the couch in the garage and fill up your living room with games. For some reason she wasn't too happy about that :004_shappy:

YES!!! The secret is definitely to sell a couple off. That way, when you tell her "I will just sell XXXXXXX." it sounds believable. I actually sold my first game (Raiden Fighters) to my best friend who just wanted something for his basement cave and my second (NBA Hangtime) to my brother. Both of their wives now hate me because neither had ever contemplated owning an arcade machine before. But it was easy for me and no leg work. That was some time ago, and I still use those two examples with my wife as my "Remember when I sold those two games" example during our "you have to many arcade games" conversations. Although honestly, the word hoarding has been mentioned more than once, but at least it still has a smile associated with it. I also made the mistake of having my friend (yes the same one) help me move my NBA Jam into the living room while she was at work.
Do not do that.

It went over with little drama actually.
When she left Fri. I had 3 games/2 couches/3 chairs in our two car garage. Neither of our bays were useable.
I craigslisted the couches away - gone same day I listed and moved RUSH SF right in. Cleaned her side up 100% and had her SUV in there when she got home....

She said "what's with the new game?" Told her how I bartered for it and then told her I need two more just like it...

Ha! I can do whatever I want with my side

And let the wagering begin.

How long till the suv is parked in the driveway. I can see it now; she comes home from a weekend getaway and asks "why is my truck in the driveway". Your reply " Todd tuckey made me a deal on 15 arcade games, I couldn't pass it up..."

Of course, then he will follow it up by saying, "but I am going to sell a couple of them".

Mad props for mentioning Tim's videos as well. During my first couple of months in this hobby, arcaderepairtips.com gave me a crash course education in arcade games. Gumbo, start there, it will certainly help.

YES ! That totally worked with the neon sign collecting. Now I need to sell them all though as I'm moving on to the next fixation (as she calls it), oh and my pals say I have the attention span of a gnat.... But the idea of my own retro arcade is just way too good to be true!

Thanks for the heads up - I'm currently looking for info on how to sync 2+ RUSH games as I've got #2 in my sights and it's only a 90 minute =/- drive wach way.

Wish me luck -

Update~

I need to make KLOV my homepage so I visit more often.

Since last post I did grab a second RUSH - a real Alcatraz Edition. Bought an Alcatraz edition upgrade chip set for my first RUSH and now the two are linked. I plan to grab a third fromm same guy I got #2 asap.

Since the RUSHs arrived whenever I have a GTG with my pals the uprights were seeing very little use. I wound up selling Centipede and DK back to the seller for a slight loss but I'm OK with that. I was trying to clear space on my side of garage to get my car in.

Asteroids Dlx got a tuneup on the Vid Board (reflowed) by awesome local guy who pals around with my enabler.

After a 6 month hunt, yesterday I went and grabbed the one Pin I would need to have if priced right.
DATA East Simpsons !!!
