So an ad shows up with a few games for sale priced 200-700 obo, of course not saying which prices were for which games so I email a few hours after the ad was posted.
This is how it went:

How much is the Super Punch Out(does everything work?)
How much is Tron?
Interested in a Working Sega Hang On as a partial trade?
I can pick up tomorrow if the price is right.
Let me know Thanks

(no reply so I emailed again Early the next morning)

I'm really only interested in the PunchOut and Tron, I emailed you last night
but thought I'd shoot you another email because I don't want to miss out on
these games.
You can reach me at XXXXXXXXXX

(His Reply)

Tron is 650 obo and super punch out is 200

Does Everything Work on the Super PunchOut? I can come pick it up right now if
you're available.
Please call XXXXXXXXXXX

(His Reply)

The reason why it is so low priced is because it needs a new plug put on it.

The plug that goes into the wall? Did it ever work while you owned it? Is it
complete with both monitors and boardset, etc.? I'd like to take a look at it.
Let me know a time that works for you.
Thanks

(no reply so I email AGAIN)

I'm still interested in the Super Punchout please let me know when I could come
take a look at it with Cash.

(He finally replies)

Well i am sorry to say it is getting picked up tonight but if he does not show i

will let you know

Crap, that's why I emailed you last night, I didn't want to miss out on it. Oh
well, let me know-if the guy offers less, I WILL give you your asking price if
the game is Complete..besides the power cord. Let me know.

Haven't heard back so I'm sure someone else got it. If it was a klover give me

the details, hopefully it was a piece of junk so I don't feel so pissed off.

I guess I should have just said I will come get it with cash right now and asked

questions later. But if he had a potential buyer why did he give me the price and

other info rather than his address to come get the damn thing? I gave my phone

number and he didn't call once. If you are a klover you sir are a dick.

Dude, I feel for you - I've had this exact scenerio happen to me. It is SO frustrating when you give your phone number and repeatly ask for details or a time to look at the game, and the seller just ignores you.

Don't ask for details. If you feel it's a screaming good deal then show up with cash and take the game home immediately. While you are busy asking about condition, someone else is standing in front of him with cash.

Yep, too many questions. $200 SPO tell em you're on your way. If you get there and it's just an empty cab then you bail out.

After I got the prices, I said I can pick it up Right Now and instead of replying with an address or time he tells me why it's so cheap???

Although you can get some great deals,CL just sucks and the few good deals that you can find don't outweigh the overwhelming suck factor IMHO. I don't even look anymore. I'd much rather buy a game from a reputable klover than some shitbag on CL who usually doesn't have any business acumen nor any sense of common courtesy.

I love CL. Yeah, people on there are unpredictable. But the deals can be amazing if you are patient. Don't ask any questions at all. I have the best luck with the following:

Hi, I'm interested in the Super Punch Out game. I work on these as a hobby and would like to come take a look. I have a truck, can move them on my own and have cash. Please let me know when would be a good time for you.

Thanks

Whoever got it...You sir suck by the way.

I emailed him also, and got a "If you are serious about buying my games I will give you my address". I asked when can I come by and see them, I said I work all day Wednesday and Thursday but can make time to come out either day as I work in Muskego, and my collection is also in Muskego. I said I could come by Friday or saturday before 5PM if that works as well. Didn't get a reply other then the Super Punchout was sold but he would hold it until today, and I could have it if the guy didn't come and get it. I still wanted to see the Ms. Pacman and the TRON...No response still. I asked again for his address, and today he emails me. Super Punchout is sold. Still nothing as far as coming to look at them.

Didnt know what I needed to do to get him to take my money, I could have been there within 5 minutes of him responding.

So Grats to you whoever got this stuff...but I gotta hate you...I spent 4 hours rearranging to fit the SPO damnit!

I couldn't get an address to hand the guy cash. I could have swung over and handed him the cash, said I would take it even if the other buyer backed out, said when I could be there just needed an address and a time that worked for him...still nothing on that end.

I agree 100%. Too many questions on a great deal = someone else with cash for it to be gone. Can't tell you how many times I'll just go and look/pick up something on the spot no questions when I see it. IF Super Punch Out is that cheap, there is no way the repairs would be that much for it to STILL not be an amazing deal.

I can understand not wanting to get ripped off, but you simply just say "I'll come and grab this" ; at least that gets you in the door. If it is not in good shape when you are there, so be it, but too many questions = things out the door.

I've had people upset with me because I wouldn't take the time to take pics and describe empty $25 cabinets when someone else is there with cash in hand. When I want something out, I want it out...

I am thinking it was BS at this point. I emailed multiple times asking for an address and when to come by and haven't asked a single question.

I stated I was primarily interested in the SPO, but was also interested in the Ms Pacman and said I have a friend interested in the TRON. I STILL after sending him another email today haven't gotten a place to view them at.

Yeah, those kinds of things happen to everyone. CL is definitely hit-or-miss. For every really good deal, there are probably 5 like what you are describing. You kinda have to let them bounce off you and not let them eat up a lot of your time. And don't stress....move on to the next one.

Well if anyone else has a Super Punchout for 200 bucks, I'll take it. Magog if you ever see a great deal like that SPO again stay away it's mine:)

I was thinking almost the same thing...:)

I am semi glad, I really don't have the room for another game, a fellow KLOVer was kind enough to offer temp storage for me...but in retrospect probably for the best. And I was going to take the Ms Pacman for the girlfriend too.

Oh well this guy missed out on a sale from me and Free Pizza :)

What's the deal with you and Pizza? I assume you work at or Own a Pizza place?

Sorry to hear about neither of you getting the game. For whatever reason, nothing on Craigslist surprises me and I will never get mad no matter what happens. I go into it knowing that I am rolling the dice every time. Sometimes you strike out and sometimes you score.

When I want something on Craigslist I usually always get it. It is all about what you say and how you say it. Just think of a guy selling those machines who knows very little about arcade games reading these two emails:

Example 1:

I am interested in your games. Are they still for sale? What is the condition? Do these have original monitors? Are the monitors in good working order or have they been recapped recently? Are the boards original? Do they have original artwork? What does your schedule look like? I might be able to make it out on Thursday after 7:00.

Example 2:

I would like to buy both your games. Tell me where to pick them up and I will bring cash and a truck to carry them away.

If the guy is looking at 50 different email replies, most of them look like example 1, and a couple of them will look like example 2. Honestly, what would you do? You would pick the guy who wants it with no questions asked every time. When you look at it from this point of view, it makes total sense. The guy isn't a jerk, he just chooses the path of least resistance.

Next time just GO GO GO, even if you are unsure!! If you don't want it, don't buy it. But at least you will be first in line! :)

If its a good deal don't ask questions, leave your phone number and ask for his and say you want it and are waiting for his call.

If you are a klover you sir are a dick.

I think you're way wrong. Someone else already pointed out the obvious. If I was a seller and choosing between your email and someone who says:

"I'll take it at your price, I'll pay you in cash and I can be there in 30 minutes to pick it up."

Why would the seller not choose that guy? How did the other buyer do anything wrong? The seller never promised it to you, the other buyer did not steal it out from under you as there clearly was no firm deal made.
