I finally got around to making a JAMMA test bench... It is a little rough but totally functional. I used one of the 7" LCDs that YellowDog was selling, a small switcher and a project box from Radio Shack. I wired a small speaker inside and a fan for cooling. It also has coin up, P1, P2 and Test buttons. I still need to wire up a smaller project box for the joystick and buttons which hopefully I will get to this weekend.

Nice. I was going to do the same thing and still will, but came across a Super Gun which solves my current problem. Man now I'm itching to do that project again.

BTW, I have an Xarcade Blank that I was going to use for a test bench controller but don't think I'm going to use it anymore. Let me know if you have any interest in it instead of a project box from RS.

Sweeeeeet

I am beginning the same project!

Do you have any pics of the inside of the project box? Where did you hide the transformer and power supply?

Very nice - I like the integrated LCD. I thought about doing that - I have an extra LCD that will work and fit. Do you have a way to output the video to a monitor in a cab to make sure it works? That was the big thing I wanted to do with mine - it's portable so I can sit it next to a cab, plug the output into the monitor, and check the monitor inside the cab. Here's mine

I was sitting here working on my desk layout. Hooking up all my tools and trying to figure out the best way to get a jamma test rig up and running. Then you post up some awesome inspiration...

Nice man... Can we get some snaps of the inside as well and a parts lists?

How about them snaps of the inside of that box Mike? I am really interested because I have most of the same parts here...

What did you use to mount the monitor? The project box is wider on both sides buy about 1/2 inch.

You also said you used a small switcher. Do you have a link to that switcher? Is the switcher under the desk?

These little lcd's don't need an iso so I know thats not a concern.

Here is a snap of the inside of my project box with the LCD sitting in it. I notice there are 4 small standoffs, inside the box one in each corner that you can bolt to.

How did you anchor the LCD? Did you use two pieces of plexi one on the top obviously and another cut like a frame to hold the LCD in place from the bottom?

What would be the best way to anchor that bad boy?

Here are some pics of the inside and the joystick... Like I said it isn't pretty but it works great!

The switcher is just something that I pulled out of an old game and had laying around. It is the smallest switcher I have ever seen and fits just great in this project box.

I cut a frame out around the LCD and a lexan sheet to extend over the front. I then drilled holes and used machine screws, washers and nuts to secure the LCD in place from the inside.

The joystick....

I used an old Nintendo joystick that I had laying around. I then used some molex connectors so I can separate the joystick from the main rig.
