Just recently picked up an Atari System 1 Indiana Jones from dj dns (great guy with a great collection) for my son's birthday. He loves the game but I might have pooped the party. Basically, game works flawlessly while a six your old is playing it as it was intended, enter a 35 year old man (me) and of course I do something to fuck it up, lol. The game was plugged into a power strip and I believe I half pressed the off button on the strip causing the game to "hiccup". Now the game fires up and everything looks normal with the attraction screens but I get a single click sound coming from the right speaker every 3 seconds and the game will not show any credits when the coin switches are pressed. I couldn't get the game to start up in Test mode when I switched it on the audio/reg III board so I'm not sure what's up with that. The fuses appear to look OK and I didn't see any signs of anything blown on any of the boards. The game is still getting signals from the control panel buttons because the demo screen will either change and/or flash the "Insufficient Coins" message when they are pressed.
Just not sure of where to concentrate the search on these System 1 setups.

Thanks in advance for any insight you guys might have so my son can get back to dodging flaming hearts from Mola Ram.

does anything look burned on your ar3 (i.e. resistors, etc)? you may want to check your +5 volts on the board and make sure it's ok.

I haven't checked anything with a meter yet but as far as I can see no resistors or caps appear to have blown or show signs of being corroded, split or misshapen. I reseated all the connections but the lack of the test screen has me puzzled.

test your voltages and see if they are good or not. My TOD worked great for a while then I turned it on one day and got a blue screen. The ARIII died. A rebuild got it going again. Could be something else in your case but checking voltages and that ever connection is properly seated is a good starting point.

Still having the same problem. I checked the test tabs on the System 1 main board and it's reading +5v (it was 4.8 ish but i adjusted it on the ARIII back up to 5. The actual Indy board is showing 5v on it's test tabs also. The big blue is reading 12v.(this appears to be the older version power supply without the additional switching power supply) I tried swapping the AR III board for another untested one I picked up and I get the same problem with the popping sound every 3 seconds only when you try the coin switches with this untested AR III it causes the game to cutout/reset all together.
The test option switch on the "good" AR III is still not doing anything one way or the other. Is there anyway to jumper any connections on any of the boards to force a test screen?
It's just not giving me any listed clues or errors to look into.
I'm amateurly guessing it may be one (or more) of 4 culprits:

1. Bad ARIII
2. Bad System 1 main board
3. Bad Indy Board
4. Bad Big Blue maybe?

After a ton of research I did find one other person with the exact same symptoms of a pop every few seconds and no credits. Phetishboy reported having same problem here: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=44381
I asked him about it but it was really just a matter of returning the faulty board and receiving one that did work.
So, that info leads me to think I need to concentrate on the Indy board itself.......right?
If it is the Indy board, what should I look into on it. All the surfaces and guts look good with no burn marks, chip/ROM issue maybe?
Like I said, game worked perfect up to the very second I basically half switched the power strip. Just trying to figure the path of the problem.

Damn you, Doctor Jones!

I'm still at a loss as to why it's still making that skipping sound every 3 seconds and not registering credits.

So far I have tried a different AR III board with the same results.
I swapped in a different Indiana Jones daughter board with the same results.
I bypassed the old big blue power supply and powered the main board using a switching power supply with the same results.
I know I'm getting +5 on the main board, daughter board and the coin switch but the main board still isn't registering credits so I'm thinking this is where the problem is located, a bad gut somewhere on the main board.
I reseated all the removable chips and checked every inch of it for anything burned out or showing a bad connection and nothing looks questionable except for one thing as seen in this pic.

Would this little chip cause my symptoms?

Here is it's location on the main board as it would be sitting within the cab.
Also my lower LED on the board is lit when the game is on but the upper LED as seen in the pics remains off, is this normal?

That's a resistor pack. It's probably ok as is. Is the white portion a continous white? Or does it have a darker spot in there? Measure the resistance between the 2 end pins. Should be 3.3k out of circuit. Hopefully, it won't be far from that in-circuit. I don't have schematics, so no guarantees. In fact I only have the Indy installation manual, nothing else...no system 1 or schems, etc. So can't help on the led symptoms.

How's that transistor? Are the legs all ok and not opened or shorted?

Well Indy is back in action whipping thuggee ass.
I grabbed a working System 1 main board from Quarterarcade.com and this solved the problem. So I'm guessing blew on the other board. At least I now have spare parts I suppose. But it works so I'm happy.

Still wondering about the technical chain reaction to get this result all from miss flipping the power strip switch. From now on, just in case, Indy is positioned conveniently next to the candy machines so the cab's rear switch is easy to get to.
