My Holy Grail find...better than I could have imagined! (Maybe...)

So today, I get an email from a buddy...friend of a friend had my Holy Grail for sale, a 1990 Aliens arcade in working condition for an unbelievable price. I went down this evening and spoke to the guy, and he showed me something I wasn't expecting: An Aliens arcade in a very different cabinet than I'm used to seeing. The cabinet is a Xenophobe-style cabinet with molded plastic instead of side art, shaped like a coiled up Alien, Geiger style. The cab has seen its share of years but will be easy enough to restore. Needless to say, I quickly thrust the cash into the guy's hand so he couldn't change his mind :p

Now my question, is this cabinet unique? I've been searching Google like crazy and have yet to see another one like it. I'm guessing either its a prototype, or a conversion with custom-made plastic vacuformed sideart. I will add some pics tomorrow when its daylight and I can get a better look at it

It may just be a dedicated cabinet. Most of the cabs I saw BITD were just conversions.

I've never seen one like that. Sounds like it could be a rare find. Not a bad way to find a grail. post up some pics!

Sounds like a pretty sweet find! I cant say i have ever seen one like your describing, but I sure do hope you post some pictures, i would love to see it. :)

To quote many others before me, "pics or it didn't happen!" :)

Does it look like this?

If so, yeah, Space Gun. Still awesome.

I bet it's a custom conversion in a Xenophobe cabinet. There's a guy in your area that got several games from me a year or two ago. One was a Mr. Do!, the other was an Aero Fighter's cocktail, and the third was an Aliens in a Xenophobe cabinet.

It's probably the same one after he worked on it and added the plastics to the side. I'll try to see if I have any pictures of it. I had no interest in it (came with a bulk buy of six games) and never even tried to turn it on before he got it.

Check to see if it has the original door or if it is a new one. The original got busted before trying to load it and was set to the side. It didn't get loaded with the rest of the parts, so it shouldn't have the original grills and will be made of newer wood than the other parts of the cab.

lol No. In fact after further investigation, I'm pretty sure its a Xenophobe like gameguy said, and had the extra stuff added after the fact. Interesting choice of a conversion, but for the price, I couldnt beat it.

Whats even more curious is, I had the exact same idea about doing the plastics on the side of an Aliens cab a while back and told Rob about it when he came and picked up the Asteroids Deluxe from me. Weird how someone else had the exact same idea lol

Oh well, I still have my grail LMAO

Well, here's the one and only picture I have of the thing when I brought the lot of games home.

I usually take a bunch of pictures as I go through a machine, but it was gone before I got a change to clean it up or clean it out.

It did have an Aliens marquee and I remember looking at the boardset while the back door was off of it.

I dont see any giger art work on it and it isexactly like the one i pictured.. alot of people did that to the xenomorph cabs.. i think cfcamaro has a real nice one... nothing compares to my aliens cab though :)

Glad to hear you got your Aliens, Rob!

I think I have Gameguy's Mr. Do! It was a former Space Panic, but has the original Universal cab and monitor bezels.
