My "Grail" has Arrived!!! (well, partially)

For about 4 or 5 years now, since I found out this game existed, I have wanted to pick up a Monkey Ball cab. I'm not sure why I'm obsessed with this game but I have always loved it. Well, KLOVer rmackie6661 let me know in another thread that an operator he works for has this cab but was going to multicade it. I offered up some cash but the op didn't bite. But... Ross was kind enough to tear out all of the insides along with the cp, marquee, & instruction card for me. So I now have a full Monkey Ball kit and just need a cab to put it in! That cab should be coming from KLOVer alejandromad sometime soon... just need to find a time when we he is available. Between working on the cab and figuring out all of this wiring I think I have a nice winter project ahead of me. Thanks to Ross for coming through on this and to Allen for the forthcoming cab! I'm thrilled.

AND... I'm picking up a Tempest tomorrow which will put me at having 4 out of my top 5 games!

Good for you Ben. I see that it did indeed have the banana joystick to boot. Why don't you just put it in one of those Candy cabs?

That will be good.. Can't wait to see the end result Ben..

Wow! Totally jealous!!! I agree, there something very cool about that cab and game! I love bright happy games. And, that's about happy as you can get! Confraternity!

I always enjoyed this game too. Was playing the new one at IAAPA this week and it has a lit-up glittery trackball just a little smaller than a bowling ball. They had two, a regular UR and one with a seat. I should have pictures of them but won't be able to post them until next week. Also one of my favorites on the GameCube. Nice pick up. :)

theres one right across the street at cici's pizza, played it not long ago. awesome game on console as well,i was addicted to the damn game. congrats on your pick up,and the rest from alejandromad. He's a good guy to deal with.

And I just found an issue. It seems in everything Ross pulled from the cab the GD Rom drive with the Monkey Ball disc is missing. I wish I had noticed this earlier but I didn't have time to look through everything until we got back from the Cities a little while ago. That's kind of a bummer... I have the security chip for this game but without the actual Monkey Ball disc I'm out of luck. :(

Nice dude! That thing is going to look awesome! We'll see you tomorrow and get you set up. I think old Al and I are going to move his stuff early so we should be able to get it out.
With that and your Tempest you will have to set up a party!!!! Phett, looks like I found our next get together....

That's a bummer indeed man...
IIRC, Monkey Ball has been successfully dumped. Perhaps you can track down a CHD and burn a replacement disc

This guide describes the dumping of GDRom discs for naomi, but it has a bit of info that might help...

Thanks so much for that lead. I hadn't even thought about the fact that I might be able to do this. I think I found the right file, now I need to locate a GDRom Drive.

Ever think about contacting the manufacturer? Maybe you can still get one from them.

Well, I got a call back from a woman at Sega. She can provide the Monkey Ball software for $225. A bit more than I'd want to spend on it so that will be a total last resort. :) But on the upside I have a GD Rom drive on the way to me.

Could have sworn there was a method to bootleg Naomi games... I'd imagine there is probably a hacked bootloader you can use to run it off of a regular CDROM (Dreamcast had that vulnerability and it is just a home version of that arcade system).

I was told that I could just burn the CHD file to a cd and it should work since I already have the security chip in the Naomi main board. I haven't had a chance to burn it yet but I was really hoping to pick up the actual software for the game. Someone else mentioned that a burned disc might prematurely wear out the GD Rom drive. So I don't know. :)
