The annual videogame industry summit D.I.C.E. (http://www.dicesummit.org) is in Vegas this week and my buds from CGExpo / Videogame History Museum (http://www.vghmuseum.org) are sponsoring a retro gaming lounge for the event.

Console gaming aside, you can't have a decent lounge environment without a few classic arcade games to represent, so I grabbed seven vids from my collection, powered them up to make sure they still worked (they're living in storage for the time being), and carted them off to the event.

Later, I'll add a few photos of the actual lounge now that it's set up, but here's a teaser shot or two of the games as they await transport to the show.

Oh, and for anyone that's Twitter-friendly (I'm not), I'm told that you can follow #DICE or @Pete_Cahill - but I'm not sure what any of that means.

Pete

A few shots of the games during set up and the lounge in general... Several times there were people playing every arcade game, which was nice to see. Even the Atari FB got some love.

It's great to see these games get the publicity they deserve along with the people who made it all possible. Thanks Pete for showing us your prized classic games.

wow, no computer space in there pete??

haha.... the games look great. i think i remember that minty fresh pacman from a certain klover (before he sold it to you a loong time ago). that is one of the nicest pacs ive ever seen.

of all the games on the floor, which one got the most play?? chris

Very cool putting them out there for people to play. Nice selection on the games.

Overall it was a decent show and I think the games were a hit. I "only" brought 7 games to put in our lounge area, but man it was a lot of work to get them there and get them back out again.

Most of my games are already on casters but we still managed to break off 5 (yeah, 5!) casters from the bottom of the games, including the ones that were the screw-in type where the leg-levelers normally go. The only other damage sustained was that the hotel guys managed to take a chunk out of the Asteroids while they were putting it on stage for the Ed Logg award ceremony, and the DK power supply went belly up right after I got it back from the show. They took more of a beating while in-transit than being played, for sure.

I did have a chance to catch up again with some of the Innovative Leisure guys, had Ed Logg sign my Asteroids and Centipede machines (why not, eh?) and Owen Rubin and I ran through some Major Havoc on the MAME emulator for iOS. Yeah, he's definitely better at the game than I am, no surprise.

If the CGExpo guys manage to convince Ed Rotberg to make an appearance at this year's show, I'm going to have to dig my Battlezone out of storage so I can keep the "signed Atari cabinets" thing going. Hey, if the games are going to have some graffiti, it might as well be by the original programmers. My BZ was buried in storage at the time of the show and everyone who has one knows they're damn heavy to boot.

ENDOFLINE: Yep, that's the Pac-Man I got from Tim years ago. Hope he's doing well - haven't heard from him in forever.
DOGBOWL: Yes, the CGExpo guys brought a few items from their collection, including the Adventurevision and Cosmos.

In all, most everyone seemed to dig the lounge concept and all the games were working, but there were a few KLOV'ers who attended the show who had to criticize the games ("this is the wrong t-molding", "they should've fixed the Football monitor'). There's always a hater in the crowd. The games were there to be played, not photographed. I take that back, I guess the Puppy Pong - signed by Bushnell and Alcorn, was there for that. That one belongs to CGE.

Finally, a plug for the CGExpo: it's August 11th and 12th in Las Vegas, just after CAX, and I'm sure there'll be a bunch of arcade games there to play as well. I'm just not sure that I'm up for all the labor! Props to shertz and DogP who've done that task in previous years - you guys rock.
