I recently purchased a decently restored Galaga. Interestingly it has two serial numbers stamped on the back.

Anyone know the significance of this?

Sorry for the tiny pics, webshots is being difficult now.

The 14945 SN matches my Galaga tag. There looks to be another set of staple marks in the cab, could that be for another SN tag?

Thanks!

There weren't a lot of tight controls when making these games originally, but I've never seen anything like that before.

Could it have been a cabinet that was reused in the factory?

This is only a guess, but it most likely was a reused cab that was assigned to a prior game that was not selling well and factory converted to be used as Galaga. I have a Mappy that the bottom of the cab was cut from another game and used to create the cab. You can clearly tell it was the side of another game cab and was not done outside of the factory as it would have taken massive work to have replaced it and would have destroyed the cab in the process...

Is there any sort of serial number records out there for Midway cabs? There appears to be white paint under the black, perhaps the cab was originally white?

Does the monitor neck stick out the back of the cabinet? If it does you probablly have a converted Bosconian to Galaga, many were done at the factory.

I picked it up without a monitor. It has a decent G07 in it now. There is no indication that it ever had a monitor that stuck out the back. The rear door appears original and I'd guess it's been on the cab since new.

What about Bosconian would make it not fit? An oversized monitor? I'm not that familiar with the game.

Any sort of serial number registry out there? Any way to deduce what might have been in there first?

Bosconian were in white laminate cabinets that has the same profile as Galaga cab but were not as wide front to back because they only had a horizontal mounted monitor. When Boscoinian flopped they put the first Galagas in these cabinets but had to cut a relief hole in the back door and install a plastic bubble shroud because the vertical mounted monitor neck stuck out the back of the cabinet.

This thread is a White Galaga that my brother is redoing that contains the pictures of the back door. http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=226181

Then mine wasn't a Bosconian because the can depth is normal. All the wiring and internals appear to be common to whatever game proceeded the Galaga.
