Well it had to happen sooner or later....I finally picked up a willis overlay....and an Asteroids machine to go with it.....arrggggghhhhhhh....oh well, the machine is pretty nice aside from the overlay....I notice there is some cracking on the underside of the overlay so replacing it is a high priority....

Monitor looks good and the vectors are bright...Pretty good condition for the most part....

So what are the options for overlays? I know arcadeshop has an overlay which looks quite nice. Are they any other options for good quality overlays or should I just call arcadeshop?

Also, I am normally fine replacing leaf buttons with microswitches but I cannot do it to Asteroids. The buttons that are currently on it are very smooth and work quite nicely...but they are not white....Anyone know where I can find some white replacement buttons that are smooth functioning? I assume they are some kind of leaf buttons but I find with Asteroids, the buttons are critical for proper gameplay....Arcadeshop also has some button replacements but I am unsure if they are right for Asteroids....

Regards,

C.

arcadeoverlays.com has the stencils. I've bought some leaf buttons from Twistedquarter and they're great, but I'm not sure they work on Asteroids. As long as it's a standard 1 1/8" hole you'll be fine.

heh i have that same awful overlay on my asteroids.

The 'full wrap' overlay from arcadeshop is pretty cool. It's not authentic but looks pretty good if you don't want to paint the stencils on.

I like a lot of the willis stuff but the asteroids one looks horrible.

thats what I am leaning towards, the full wrap....If I don't change the overlay pretty quick, then I am less likely to do it after owning it for a few months...

There is a silk screened CP that was selling on here a month or so ago...
He did a whole run like the MC panels...

Even though a lot of Willis overlays don't match the games very well (some do, like the one on my Centipede), I like them. I'm probably the only one that likes the one on your Asteroids. If I owned it I would leave it. Congrats on the pickup

I am pretty stoked actually to have picked up the game....I played the game recently at a local arcade show and really enjoyed it....I am always amazed at the brightness of the vectors, especially the bullets....One other thing about the cabinet, is the coin slot is not the usually one...its the owl eye...very cool...

they had a raffle for an asteroids machine at the show but alas, I didn't win it...I was pretty excited to find one locally less than a week after the show....Tried to tell the wife that the machine was from the draw but she didn't bite....

The only one that likes the overlay, really? :)

I'd leave it on too. It gives it that 80's well used look, kinda like the 80's chicks with big hair, torn leggings and the cig hanging from the mouth.
