Despite some problems and a major dumbass move on my part I think this restored Pac came out looking pretty good.
For a while now I've been wanting to restore my Pac but haven't been able to score any stencils. That changed about 2 months ago when I get a set from Kevin Moore (talon2000). They are awesome stencils, the amount of detail is outstanding. Having never worked with full size stencils I though I'd get a hold of a cab and practice and get it right before I attempt to restore my personal Pac. The cab I found was really beat, but it was solid, the sides were especially rough and not having all the proper tools I took it to a body shop and had them prep the sides, the rest I did myself.
Had a little bit of trouble applying the stencils, some slight mis-alignment occurred and I gave Kevin constant feedback as to what was happening. Kev is in the process of getting some different material that should make the application a bit easier. Air bubbles in the stencils before application were part of the problem that made it more difficult to apply. When I do my pac I won't have Kevin remove any material from stencils before he ships, I will apply entire stencil to cab and then weed out the non needed material. I did this with some junk stencils he sent me and was able to weed the non needed stuff from a test piece of board easily. I had some problem with black paint when I removed stencil some of the paint came with it, the day I shot the black was very humid and I'm guessing I didn't let paint thoroughly dry or I didn't prep well enough for that step.
A major screwup on my part, I applied the right side stencil too far towards the front of game cause I measured wrong. Instead of measuring from back edge of game I measured from front edge, reminder to self, take your time!
So with some parts I had lying around and the purchase of a new CPO I put this game together for my wife's kid for his birthday this Sunday. Oh and yes I know the coin door logo is wrong that's one of the parts I had.
BTW a boatload load of thanks has to go to Kevin (talon 2000) he answered a ton of email questions during the process. If you are interested in getting more info on the Pac stencils PM him at talon2000
You can see a full set of pix of the restoration with the link below. Even though I edited them I can't figure out how to certain pix to be vertical in preview, theywill open up vertically if you click on them.
