My first side art install! Went well! Marble Madness

I wanted to share the result of my first cabinet side art install. I also want to thank members of KLOV/arcade-museum for all the insight they offer here!

I'm restoring an Atari System 1 Marble Madness. It was time for the side art... I was a little nervous but did a lot of research and felt like I knew what to expect. I settled on the "dry" method.

I started with the right side of the cabinet. I positioned the art very well but ended up with a couple of air bubbles. Nothing terrible, but I was annoyed when I noticed them. One tip: look at the art from different angles while doing the install. I couldn't see the bubbles from my angle during install!! I grade my right side result with a "B". It's pretty good. I don't think average Joe would even notice the imperfections.

I moved on to the left side. I took more care to look for bubbles and went a little slower. It turned out excellent! Very good positioning and no bubbles! I grade the left side as an "A". You can see the results below.

Just wanted to share...

(oh, a pic of the grade "B" is on my web site --- if you wanted to see that)

You can take a pin and poke a little hold where the air bubble is and use a card to work it out. You shouldn't notice the pinhole, but it will remove the air from under the artwork. You did a great job!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

I'll try the pin trick a little... it would be nice to have a very sharp needle that is very small...

The flat tip of a new blade of an x-acto knife worked better for me than a pin. You can see where the pin was; you can't see the result from the x-acto knife.

Great job, btw!

Addition to the pin prick method....attempt to push the bubble to where there is a line or detail in the art. Make the pin prick right on the line/detail and it will blend right in. You'll never know it was there. I've even used a razor blade and made tiny slits along line where the bubble is and you can't see the slit at al because it's right on a line(where one color meets another).

That looks really nice!

Was this the Phoenix Arcade reproduction sideart? I recently did my Roadblasters cabinet. While it is nowhere as nice as yours, it really made the cabinet look completely different (in a good way). The art I had was NOS so it lost it's 'stickiness' in some areas, but I will be fixing that soon (I hope).

Here's mine (which loks not so great compared to yours, LOL) http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=161697

Demogo, Shirkle, thanks for the advice regarding the bubbles.

Chris, yes. The art was from Phoenix Arcade. Very pleased with their product. And... your cab is nice also!
