Hey guys,

Fortunately this machine came up for sale locally, the original owner had it for many years stored away untouched in his garage and decided he couldn't find the time to get this machine to it's former glory.

I'd always thought this machine would be an awesome addition to my current small collection. So when the offer came up I was all over it!
This EDOT is also the very one that was located in Melbourne Australia's Timezone in the mid 80's. (according to the seller)

Who would have thought that the machine I tried to play (was way too short to see the screen) as a child would end up in my home one day :)

As you're about to see in the pictures, It had much better days and needed allot of work.
At first I was absolutely terrified to even think of what I needed to do as this is my very first restoration. Electronically everything works great. Sqauwk board, Light sequencer etc.
Just the cab was quite bad with water damage to the floor and a few chunked out missing pieces.

So I said to myself "To hell with it and get cracking" and cracking I literally did :)

Nice crack all the way through the back left side about shoulder height.

The right side has the lower back right completely missing.

There was this awful bit of steel going across the coinbox to prevent theft.
(Can't find that pic) by this stage I started pulling it apart :)

Floor was quite bad with water damage and will need replacing.

Both sides cut out and routered.

Putting it all back together with the original seat, speaker panel light back board etc.

Brought it home and lines up nicely.

Couldn't help myself and had the urge to put some of the old T mould in as I've never done it. :)

And that is what I've done so far.

Just waiting on new decals and a few other bits from Thisoldgame.

I'd also like to say thanks to Vader1979 and Supertechnoboy for the inspiration and advice!

Wow...rebuilding the entire back of a cab on ur first restore??...nice job! U must have a lot of experience with woodworking?

Also....looks like u need a new joystick. Those can be found at groovygamegear.com. find the tron replica. Its the same for both cabs.

Yes I do mate.
As for the controller I have the original one and a spare that came with the cab.

Thanks!

Nice work so far! I think this is the fourth EDOT restoration happening concurrently, and it sure makes the forums a handy place for trading information. Your timing is also very good, with Rich reproducing almost the entire art package.

Thanks!

Yes this forum is an abundance of knowledge. I personally call it the "bible of arcade".
I hope to get mine looking half as good as yours. What you've done is second to none.

Really hope he reproduces those back light plastics and joystick inserts soon. Mine doesn't look that great. And hopefully someday the art above the black light and monitor bezel as well. Then he would have the full package! Crossing fingers....

Put the glass panels in today to make sure they fit correctly.

I'll be spending the next few days just strengthening it all and filling, sanding and preparing it for the decals.

Nice. I played an EDOT for the first time at the PAPA pinball championships last weekend. I have to admit I did not "get it" until I actually played. Sooooo cool.

Lined it up yesterday to check that it was uniform.
Speaker and back light wires go underneath.

Steel plate covers wires. This will be covered with a new Tron target decal.

Ready for primer and then a black coat of paint.
-Notice that on the bottom of the cab I have fixed blocks of wood for it to stand on.
This prevents any chipping on the bottom edges of the cabinet when tilting it on it's side.

Looking good! I am at exact same spot as u in my restoration. Gonna be tipping her on her side this weekend to apply primer...

Cool! And thanks.
I just finished applying primer to the whole cab.
