I have just started restoring a Gorf machine. I noticed that my Marquee looks different from others I have seen. I think its due to due to wear / flaking of the purple background, but I am not sure.

Below is a picture, it does kind of look like it was printed this way.

I found out the marquee got like this due to excessive heat.

It just looks to me like your black paint somehow got crazed. Maybe it was cleaned a while back with something that reacted with the black and not the other colors?

It's actually kinda cool looking but I'm sure that's something you'll want to replace if you are doing a restoration.

Power supply

I went to tanner electronics today and bought all the caps to recap the power supply. I used the list Bob Roberts has on his site. Unfortunately when I got home and removed the p/s board from the cabinet I noticed that the board I have isn't original. Duh!!!
Tanner electronics has a no return clause.

The board I have is a A082-90427-C000, I think this is from a super pacman.

My board had the ugly soldered on yellow wire and a broken connector.

What do you think is it work trying to find the original 90411 board ? Could it had come like this from the factory? Will attach pictures later.

There are some massive axial e-lytes 40,000 uF 16v and 25,000 uF 30v at the rectifier. If I keep this board I need to shoe horn in some radials someway in the same position.

More pictures will follow showing the progress. Right now I am waiting for parts.

I have some nice inner art that is still attached to my Gorf donor(had it for 10 years now). Its not MINT but is in damn good shape. I can take some pics if you like, etc. It would be just a matter of carefully removing them on my part. LMK if you're interested.

Wow! That game is dirty!! You've got a lot of cleaning to do.

It will be nice to watch this retoration now that I've done one. I'll offer any advice I can.

Regarding the inside areas, I didn't find anyone reproducing them so you might want to take up GorfChampion on his offer. Getting them off will be a challenge because I think they are glued on (besides also having nails in the corners).

Good luck!

Marquee lights

Now I know why my Marquee looked weird. It has melted, apparently the violet background had a lower melting point.

When I removed the speakers they just crumbled to dust, most likely from age and heat. The wood on the top above the marquee had two areas right above the lights that had turned to charcoal.
I could almost poke my finger straight through the burnt wood. When I put this together again I will use low energy lights.

Inside artwork

Both of my inside artwork panels are torn and missing the bottom corner. I am looking for a source of reproduction gorf inside artwork or good scans that I could use to print new.

What would you do with the inside art ?
Just remove it and paint the whole inside semi gloss black, and wait for a reproduction to be available ? Try to keep whats there ?
Paint a blue triangle with the blue paint ?
