My first real "fix" - GORF lives again!

Still drying but the sides are a nice Gorfian blue now.

They're great! I'm still having a bit of an issue with the 4 slot taking some time to "warm up" before the monitor comes up but I haven't really looked into it yet.

Another Buffalonian Neo owner here. The resto is looking great so far, keep it up!

On a side note when you get to working on the neo, make sure you take care of the old ni-cad battery on the mobo as they can leak and cause all sorts of unpleasant damage. There's a nice thread on it over on the NG boards.

Awesome tip - thanks so much! I'll check it the next time I'm in the garage fiddling around.

I love these forums :) Any suggestions on where to get a new battery if I need one?

If it's still the original battery I'd replace it even if it doesn't appear to be leaking yet. Instead of going with a rechargeable you can just replace it with a lithium-ion coin cell battery like you would find on most computer motherboards. You can get those from RadioShack or somewhere similar. You just need to cut out the 470 Ohm resistor to disable the charging circuit, but again there are more details in that thread.

More "splattery" than I would have liked but the white starfield went on today. Awaiting new t-molding (should be here today) and need to order new side art.

Here's a pic with the new T-molding installed. Unfortunately the game isn't coming on now :( Monitor/lights are coming on but no action from the game, no audio, etc.

Grrrr.

I buy the joystick bulbs from advanced auto. If I recall they had several different voltages, pretty sure the ones you need are 12v.

Any luck? Sounds like it could be a power issue. Pretty sure the monitor and lights will be running from AC while the other stuff gets fed by the power supply. Make sure the main adapter to the board is tight and that all the connections to the power supply are secure.

Haven't had time to look at it yet with the holiday weekend and all. May be in over my head but i'll do my best. If I can't figure it out I found a local tech that I will be calling in for backup :)

No progress on the game/power issue yet but I did get started on a new rear panel. It had obviously been dropped before and the entire piece was split and the monitor bubble cracked. It'll be replaced with a new one from the run that Phineasfoo did. Notice the quality repair job done by the previous owner.

Bonus picture of the lenticular 3D Tron picture that I got from Disney Movie Rewards the other day. Picked up a frame and hung it up in the game room in the house today.

New back panel complete! Well, need to run and pick up some locks, but I got it cut, painted and the new monitor bubble attached today.

Yes, I know I stapled the grates on the wrong side of the panel. D'oh. :( Regardless, it's still light-years better than that POS that was on there.

Ok so I called in for backup on my Gorf machine after installing a switching power supply and getting no results. Dave Wilson came out and gave it the once-over (along with fixing the score display on my Turbo and the monitor on my Neo Geo).

Great guy, and knows his stuff, just wish I lived closer so I didn't have to pay travel cost for him to come out! Here's his site if you're in WNY and need help fixing up your games: http://coinopny.com/pinballrepair.php

Anyways he came back this morning and finished up, and I now FINALLY have my whole row up and running. It's a beautiful thing (see below!).

I do still have what I believe is an issue with the RAM boards on the Gorf - Kawydud any chance you'd be willing to bring over your boardset so I can troubleshoot?

Sure, just need to get some free time to stop over. Hopefully after this weekend.

Awesome - yeah Father's Day weekend this weekend so I'll be busy too. Just let me know when you've got some time!

Board swapping may not be necessary after all! I was out tinkering tonight and adjusted the power supply and it seems to be running 100% now. You're still welcome to come check it out, though (and bring that Tempest!).

I'll post this pic here too for safe keeping. The lineup, lit up.

Got Gorf side art from my wife and son for Father's Day! Will be applying later. Stay tuned...

Side art applied! I did the "wet method" using a spray bottle with water, a shot of hand soap and some isopropyl alcohol. Used a technique similar to this, but instead of smoothing out with my hand I used a credit card wrapped in a paper towel:

No air bubbles! Almost had one but I was able to get it out thanks to the water mixture. Very happy with how everything looks. Just need to paint the bottom with some gray and this sucker is pretty much done.
