My first real arcade injury that required a visit to the doctor

Yesterday I was moving a JAMMA cab with monitor and I put the hand truck under it on the side but
didn't compensate for the monitor's weight... it went tumbling and I decided I should try and catch it (bad
idea). I caught a lot of the weight on my wrist. Above is a picture of it from earlier today.

Doesn't look too bad except I have no feeling in the right half of my left thumb. Went to the doctor today
in case I have nerve damage. Took some xrays to see if it's fractured or not - won't find out til tomorrow.
I know it's not as bad as some people's arcade injuries (I had a friend that broke an arm when a 25 inch
cab fell on it).

Weirdest part is I had a gumball machine and a lawnmower nearby and somehow... still not quite sure
how... the gumball machine caught it in its crook and between that and the base of the mower it never hit
the ground and sustained zero damage - the gumball machine was fine too - it was on two legs holding
the game. I wish I had taken a picture. It was friggin crazy. The other fortunate thing was that I had just
10 minutes earlier locked one side of the CP and that was enough to hold the THIN plexi in place which
kept the monitor in place. The plexi was bowed outward with the weight of the monitor facing the ground.

Good have been much worse, so I'm thankful it turned out like it did. Sold the cab today :)

Most of my arcade related injuries have been my knees hurting from playing too much DDR. :p

I did tumble backwards and have my candy cabinet fall on me but thankfully it was light enough to not cause any damage to myself or it. Other than that I have been very fortunate.

That's a common issue with DDR players - and I don't think it's from dancin' LOLOLOLOLOPLOLOLOLOL;.

Godspeed on a fast recovery there brokenjoy - hope you didn't suffer any nerve damage.

Hur, hur.

The real zinger is I'm on my knees all day Monday through Friday .

/I install flooring.

Was it enough to cover the doctor bills?! :)

My insurance will cover it all. Last (non-arcade) injury I had was when I nicked the tip of my finger with the hedgetrimmer. ER visit, plus tetanus shot plus some surgical glue (super glue) and it cost over $2000. Insurance covered almost all of it. Makes me REALLY appreciate insurance.

Aside from back strain, I punctured my thumb on a protruding finishing nail when working with a wooden crate to ship a game overseas. Even made the pwwwweeee squishy sound.

That and the time I touched the neckboard with my fingers while the game was on in a vain attempt to 'fix' the picture. Holes burned into my finger tip and the surge of electricity numbed my hand for at least an hour if not more. The smell of burnt skin lasted a while longer.

Damn, I just did this back in July as well. Wife wanted me to go to the ER, but all I did is just bandage it up!! Could still feel my finger tip, etc.. so I know I didn't hit any nerves!!

Still feels like I have a lump on my fingertip though and its been almost 2 months.

Sometimes gotta let things destined for the ground have the right of way. :p I dislocated my thumb catching a tilting PC-10 that almost crushed me. Also was seeing Street Fighter II dizzy bells when I moved my Virtua Fighter. The glass marquee wasn't bolted down. I happened to look up and BLAM! Marquee made contact with my face and shattered.

Wrist injuries suck really, really bad. Baby it until you're sure the thing has healed.

I have a three inch sliver of wood from my Gulfstream pin go into my hand while sanding the cab. I was prepping it for Bondo when my hand slipped and slid across a broken section of wood, and the piece (about the size of a framing nail) went right into the meat of my palm where my thumb joint is. That hurt like hell, though I didn't go to the Doc for it. I manned the f*ck up (all the while screaming like a little girl inside) while the wife yanked it out.

Went back to the doctor today - not much better. He said he thinks I tore/damaged a tendon and to let it heal for another 7-10 days. You can press on a certain spot on my wrist and it shoots what feels like electricity into my thumb - feels like I stuck my thumb in a light socket. Fun.

Discharge as many monitors as you can in the next 7 to 10 days. Less risk now.

This reminds me of the time my Star Wars fell on me and I "mostly" got out of the way (tried to catch it with my and missed - hurt like mad!). I didn't visit the doctor and it felt better after about a week.

Your KNEES hurt? My FEET hurt. Sometimes to the point where I physically cannot stand anymore. I must be doing something wrong. Or I just have shitty shoes. Actually, I KNOW I have shitty shoes. I should probably get new shoes.
