Picked it up over the weekend and finally got some pics. Overall not a terrible machine. The boards are actually very clean (which I can't say about the rest of the cab), but the wiring has been hacked to hell and the previous owner cut it in half for transport.

My favorite part so far, other than the wiring, is that the previous owner couldn't understand why it wouldn't power up at all. Something looks to be missing from the power supply...

Started working on it tonight. Basically just separated the mess of wires to figure out what was cut and where it should be going. Since this is my first, I'm probably going to be slow at going about this, but its already been fun so far!

I love my Pole Cockpit. Mine came with a dead mouse and a blown monitor. The 2 were related.

Oh boy....I too love my PP1/2 cockpit. Thing is I spent wwwwaaaayyyy too much money trying to repair the boardset/powersupplies. In the end...it was wwwaaayyy cheaper to simply replace all those parts. In the end its very stout. Good luck :)

Oh man, congrats! I love the look of the PP cockpits and uprights.

One thing you might think about is swapping in a Pole Position 2 board in there if possible. More tracks to play could mean more long-term enjoyment from its square footage use.

That's a heck of a first game. Go slow on it, and don't burn out before you fully get into the hobby. Welcome to the brotherhood.

I was uber-excited to find this one. The guy was a reseller, so I'm not sure he knew what he was talking about or knew anything about the machine, but it was a good deal.

Like I said the wiring is a mess, even I can tell that. Looks like he used indoor extension cord wire in some parts. The switcher is improperly placed and causing some of the AR board parts to bend, so either way its coming out. And I'm pretty sure I can fix the fact that it's cut in half fairly easily.

Most likely I'll just replace the power supply, but I'll think about just replacing the 2 blues and see what happens. The seller thinks the monitor is bad based on the guy he got it from, but I guess that part will be a while off.

I would love to get this up and running by X-mas. So if anyone has an extra power supply you want to part with, let me know.

2x powersupplies....but at this point there is no point in going back if there is a switcher in there.....Or...find a parted out wiring harness and junk that birds nest thats in there ;)

Just found the Retro power brick restoration thread and I'll probably go with that. Mainly for the experience more than anything. Where the rest of the wiring that has been cut, I can see pretty much where everything can be reconnected. It looks like the previous person just added and ran extra wires to the switcher, but luckily for me, he used thinner wire so its easier to identify. You can see in the pics where wires are just hanging (that was before I did anything), so I'm not sure that the work was ever completed.

But I may need you soon! Ha ha

I'm pretty sure these are supposed to be sectional. Are you sure you arent just missing some mounting hardware?

No, Poles were not sectional. If you look around there are a couple of threads about how to do it with the least damage but the bottom of the cockpits were one solid piece.
